Netvibes and Twitter: why you should link your account

As we explained in a previous post (Important Update: Twitter 1.1 API and your Netvibes account), the new Twitter API introduces changes and new limitations to the way our Social Search App interacts with the service.


The good news is that we have already taken the initiative to update our Social Search App (and all our Social Analytics) so that it will automatically be upgraded for a smooth transition.

However the new API requires that from today on, you link your Netvibes and Twitter accounts if you want to be able to search (Basic & Premium) and gather data on Twitter (Premium). Click here to do this now, for a seamless transition.

Once authenticated with Twitter, you can add as many Twitter widgets as you want, from as many account as you want. But keep in mind that the API limit will be applied to the linked Twitter account, regardless of other Twitter widgets/accounts on the Dashboard. The good news is: to avoid reaching that limit too soon, Netvibes will share popular Twitter queries throughout all users, reducing requests to the Twitter API.

The even better news is that the new Twitter 1.1 API will enable Netvibes to provide even more social analytics features, such as improved demographics, for our users. Again, since this update is from Twitter, we have no control over it, but we have done everything we can to ensure you have a seamless transition. All you need to do is link your account.

What happens if you don’t link your Twitter account or if you don’t have a Twitter account? You won’t be able to perform any Twitter search and all existing searches will stop working. You must have a Twitter account to do so. Get one here.

And if you need more Twitter searches than what the API allows, that’s not a problem. We can help. Please contact your sales representative for information on how to perform additional Twitter searches.

    Guys, read this. I also add that I’ve already removed and re-connected my Twitter account, had reloaded completely Netvibes but it still says Bad request. 🙁

    My company blocks Twitter and I used to be able to use Netvibes directly to share articles on Twitter by bypassing Twitter itself. Now I can’t share articles anymore.

    I’m really confused about what is going on with Twitter and Twitter search apps.

    I had a page full of Twitter apps that I use to search for various topics. They all worked yesterday. Today I see the yellow notification banner at the top of my dashboard telling me to link my Twitter, so I did. All the twitter search apps say “no results found”. Am I going to have to reinstall each of those Twitter search apps?

    Please help.

    I’m using the Widget by STuFF Version 1.3.6 Twitter Search.

    It was working before I linked my Twitter account and it worked after I posted the above comment but now it’s not working again. I have a page full of them. On my 2nd page I have a similar Netvibes Twitter Search widget that is working.

    Please help.
