The long awaited POP IMAP module
Here it is, you’ve been requesting this module for a long time and here it is: the POP / IMAP module.

To configure the POP/IMAP module go to the edit mode enter the following information’s:
Title and color let you customize the pop module (you can add as many modules as you want)

Enter your login and password and select the protocol you wish to use POP3 or IMAP

If your POP3 or IMAP request a secure connection (please ask to your network administrator as we can’t do email support). Most services won’t need it, some services like Gmail require them. The Port number will be automatically set with the standard values

If you have a webmail, you can enter the URL (dont forget to add http:// ) and each time you’ll click on our email, you’ll be directed there.
As in the Gmail and Yahoo Module, you can select the number (up to 20) mails titles you want to see.

Enjoy and don’t forget, if you don’t keep emails on your server, you’ll see only the remaining mails in your pop account (especially if outlook is open at the same time)
Important: Please do note that we don’t store your emails, our server is only a relay to your POP and IMAP.

Cool, btw thanks for change of title color to default, don’t have to use my own javascript anymore
Just opinion, don’t rush module creation at the cost of design. Perfect css such as rest of your modules is cool. Here is a litte lack of that perfection. But it is only small detail.

#6 | Josh | January 3rd, 2006 at 04:17
it doesn’t seem to save my password. I also can only see the sender and subject lines. Am I supposed to be able to read and/or respond to them?
#7 | Frédéric Feytons | January 3rd, 2006 at 04:34
It doesn’t fill the password field automatically but your password is saved.
You’re not supposed to be able to read and/or respond to them, no.
Enjoy

Hi,
Like it – really good work.
One suggestion – could you display the unread count in the module title (like RSS feeds and the GMail module do) handy to see when the module is minimized.
#12 | Christophe | January 3rd, 2006 at 14:45
Will it be possible to create several popmail modules ?
I have 2 mail accounts to check (one private, one profesional).
Other question: in the list of new features to come in a near future I read "multiple pages". Does it mean that my netvibes page will be usable by 2 persons with common but also different interests ? I’m very excited by this feature since I want my wife to also use the same netvibes account (we share so much identical bookmarks for instance, and also the same personal life to do list), but with her own environment.
Thanks for all and good luck for 2006!

WOWOWOWOW !!!! Awesome !!! If I am right, I was the first one to ask for it in the wiki (Hopefully) Thank You so very much.

Great !
Could you add a Hotmail module, like the Gmail and Yahoo ones, please ?
It would be fantastic.
Thank you.
#15 | Damdam | January 3rd, 2006 at 16:59
Works great on Firefow but not on IE. I get a JavaScript Error when I want to save my account informations.
"Ligne 1741, Car: 2, Code: 0, Objet Requis".
#16 | Scott | January 3rd, 2006 at 17:08
Very cool!!
It doesn’t seem save my passwords, though. I have to login each time I load the page to check my mail. Is that the way it is supposed to work? Or maybe it is something I am doing wrong??
#17 | joelfinkle | January 3rd, 2006 at 17:22
Has anyone gotten hotmail to work with the POP3/IMAP support? So far, no combo of settings seems to work. That may be Microsoft’s doing.
Also, let me put in another pitch to change this to secure server (https) if our passwords are going to be stored.
#18 | vonick | January 3rd, 2006 at 17:36
A suggestion :
A good future would be to have the amount of unreaded mails in () in the title of the mail modules (yahoo, gmail and imap/pop), we already have this feature for RSS feeds. So you will see it when the module is collapse wich is not the case actually.
#19 | Frédéric Feytons | January 3rd, 2006 at 20:00
Christophe, it’s already possible to create two popmail modules, just add a second one to your page
Damdam, which version of IE are you running? On which Windows?
Scott, no that’s not normal it should retain your password, do you use another module like Gmail or Yahoo! Mail? If yes, do they retain their password?
#20 | Marco | January 3rd, 2006 at 20:07
it doesn’t store my password either
Yes I’m using google mail module and it works just fine.
#21 | mofro | January 3rd, 2006 at 20:22
I too am having problems with saving the password. I didn’t chime in at first, because I thought it might be something I was doing wrong: I was only able to access my account information once, then it stopped working for good. It refuses to connect, and doesn’t save the login/password information.
I’m using the Gmail module and it’s working just fine. I’ve had no other problems with Netvibes. LOVE IT. thx.

#20: And so when you reload the web page, the Popmail module just says "No infos for this account, check your POP3 / IMAP4 informations and try again"? Or it says another message?
Can you just give me the name of your POP3 server? (Just the server, not the login or the password)
#24 | Janiv Gabbai-Müller | January 4th, 2006 at 01:56
The POPMail and Yahoo!Mail modules insist that I have unread messages, which I have not.
As a matter of fact, they mark *all* of the messages in my inboxes as unread, regardless to whether I have read them or not.
#25 | Frédéric Feytons | January 4th, 2006 at 03:05
The problem is that those two modules relies on the POP3 protocol and the POP3 protocol doesn’t give us the ability to see which message is read and wich is not.
#26 | Vonick | January 4th, 2006 at 08:42

Thanks a lot for my request \o/
#27 | Marco | January 4th, 2006 at 09:20
regarding not saved password: my IMAP server is mail.romulus23.de
#28 | Jay | January 4th, 2006 at 09:23
hallo,
thanks for adding that great feature! But one thing i am missing…
could you please add a field where i can configure how often netvibes checks my mail account? I am asking that because some freemailes allow a new log-in only every 10 minutes (e.g. german web.de; i guess that’s the reason why it doesn’t work with that account)
#29 | feldrim | January 4th, 2006 at 11:53
that’s amazing! but we’re still waitin’ for some apps. Eg. calendar (calendarhub), blog, and file hosting (openomy). Please…
#30 | Pierre | January 4th, 2006 at 13:28
Can I use my hotmail adresse with the pop imap module?
If it’s possible, how can i do to configure?
#31 | Frédéric Feytons | January 4th, 2006 at 14:45
#27: A refresh is done at about every 30 minutes so you shouldn’t have any problem.
If you have this problem because you leave and come back to netvibes frequently, we can’t do a lot for you because we don’t store your mails on our server and we are so forced to redownload them from your POP3/IMAP :-/
#29: You can use your hotmail address with the popmail module only if hotmail gives you the ability to download your mails via a POP3/IMAP server. As far as I know, I think that for now there are no POP3 servers with Hotmail for free accounts (but I can mistake…)
#26 and others who have problem with the password: is this always IMAP or are there some problems with POP3 passwords too?
#32 | Marco | January 4th, 2006 at 15:24
at least in my case (mail.romulus23.de) its also for POP3 access, this server has both services POP3 and IMAP and netvibes doesn’t remember password for both. I only get "No infos for this account, check your POP3 / IMAP4 informations and try again" after reload/new login to netvibes.
#33 | Kenzo | January 4th, 2006 at 19:07
Hi,
.
Thank you for this great "widget"
I wish in next pop mail version, we can go directely to the mail box from netvibes ^^. And the mail count will display correctly the unread messages
Thank you again for this great web 2.0 software !!!!!!
(I’m using the http://www.laposte.net pop mail)

#36 | mofro | January 4th, 2006 at 22:21
Seems to have resolved itself. Not sure if it was my host (IMAP: mail.mofro.com). I will have to try POP as well and see if it works…
It works well though! Did I mention that I love it? Merci!
#37 | Scott | January 5th, 2006 at 02:39
Hi… Sorry, I didn’t have a chance to check back until now. I am running two gmail modules and they work just fine. I’m using three Popmail modules, one as IMAP and the other two as POP. None of them seem to hold the password.
I just tried a yahoo account I have and it didn’t seem to work. Weird.
I’m running Firefox 1.0.7 on this computer and I think I’ve got 1.5 running on another I use at work.
BTW, I think it’s really cool to be able to see the number of unread messages in the top bar. Keep up the good work!
#38 | Marco Dittrichi | January 5th, 2006 at 13:36
This widget is cool but when I configures a new account the widget eats my mail messages and i cant see then after this….
#39 | Bittercrash | January 6th, 2006 at 14:26
I have a very ’slow’ pop3-account. The module always times out on me. Is it possible to increase the time-out to at least 30 seceonds, please? That would be super!
#40 | Mike | January 8th, 2006 at 16:52
…same problem as many others. The module doesn’t save the passwort (gmail widget works fine). i have multiple pop3 widgets and need to re-enter the password every time i refresh or revisit netvibes. currently unusable, but ih think this can be fixed…
#41 | Ralph | January 8th, 2006 at 21:24
IMAP doesn’t work with FastMail.FM (http://www.fastmail.fm) for me. The IMAP / POP server is mail.messagingengine.com…
#42 | isaac | January 9th, 2006 at 12:55
HOTMAIL.COM ACCOUNT?
#43 | Mike | January 9th, 2006 at 23:52
Same here won’t keep the password. ‘No infos for this account, check your POP3 / IMAP4 informations and try again’ as soon as I put my password in again it’s fine for that session… but it fails the next time.
#44 | Ralph | January 10th, 2006 at 08:37
@Mike: you also using FastMail? We should find out, with which providers those problem occurs…
#45 | Mike | January 10th, 2006 at 16:49
Nope to fastmail. I’m using mail.resiteit.com. I manage the server for my companay. mail.resiteit.com uses courier imap and pop3 servers using mysql based authentication on debian linux. I would think it’s some incopatibility, but it works when you put in the password… just won’t store it. Maybe courier is the common thread? Maybe it’s something with our passwords?
#46 | Mike | January 10th, 2006 at 18:31
@Here is Mike from, Nr. 39: No, i don’t use FastMail but a german provider (1und1.com) for all three configured pop3 accounts.
Same here: It works fine, if i enter the password. However, it doesn’t store it
#47 | Ralph | January 10th, 2006 at 18:48
well, fastmail offers POP and IMAP with the same server: mail.messagingengine.com – but none works. Neither with SSL nor without it…
#48 | AstroBoy44 | January 11th, 2006 at 00:28
It works with an ovh account, but when i refresh the rss reader 2 or 3 times, it forget the password… "No account…"
#49 | Edski | January 12th, 2006 at 21:00
I’m experiencing the same problems with the password not being saved and the "No infos for this account, check your POP3 / IMAP4 informations and try again" message. This is occuring with multiple pop3 accounts on pop.comcast.net using Firefox 1.5. It works when I key in the password initially but as soon as I hit refresh either on the page or the module, the error message appears. It does retain all other user entered information, however. I also echo the request for encrpyting passwords.
#50 | Mike | January 13th, 2006 at 11:18
…yep, this is exactly the same problem as i have.
#51 | Mike | January 16th, 2006 at 11:42
…AH…i found the solution, at least partially. It will save the password if you check the "secure" checkbox. This will keep the password, even after reload or refresh. Unchecking the box immediantly removes the password at the next access to the site. No i am using secure pop3, works fine with my provider.
Was this expected to be so?
#52 | Bob | January 19th, 2006 at 09:39
…totally the same problem with my mail module. Is there any development on this problem now?
#53 | Mike | January 19th, 2006 at 15:11
Try to check the "secure" checkbox. If checked, it stores the passwords. Works fine for me.
#54 | Ralph | January 20th, 2006 at 18:09
I guess, development on that feature has stopped… Problems are known and talked about since the release of that module. However, the people behind Netvibes don’t really care about or help people with that problem. A pity, because the feature was really promising.
#55 | Bob | January 24th, 2006 at 13:31
I tried out the "secure" checkbox and every and every other possible combination, however with no result. Harm, because i think this is a key feature!
#56 | Edski | January 24th, 2006 at 15:52
It is a shame that time was spent developing this module and it’s all but totally useless. Hopefully the dev team can invest a little more time fixing it so the prior investment is not wasted.
#57 | tthieum | January 24th, 2006 at 20:41
Hold back yer tears! I used to meet the same issue (password not saved) . . . Just *delete your netvibes cookie* then log in again. The module should now work fine . . . Cheers //
#58 | Edski | January 24th, 2006 at 22:34
I wasn’t aware I was tearing up about it. I’m glad that fixed things for you but alas (sniff, sniff) it did nothing to fix it for me.
#59 | Ralph | January 25th, 2006 at 16:39
Since the team behind it, seemed to stop reading this thread, i kept playing around and found a possible solution:
1.) I used a strong passwort with chars like @, !, ", §, … – don’t do that. I changed it to a pure alphanumerical password with only letters and numbers.
2.) The three "Save"-Buttons: You have to hit the corresponding button for saving changes: When you change eg. the mail accounts name and hit the third save, nothing will happen. That said, when you enter the important mail account info hit the button right next to it – hitting one of the two others, will do nothing.
I hope, i helped a bit and please keep the feedback coming. It’s only a pity, that the "official" support is kinda lacking here…
#60 | tthieum | January 26th, 2006 at 15:31
Sorry it didn’t work for Edski, but I really do encourage you to delete your netvibes.com cookie before login on and setting your IMAP/POP preferences again.
More feedback welcome.
#61 | Bob | January 27th, 2006 at 11:11
Hm, on one pc it doesn’t work for me, but on another pc now it works…with doing nothing! On Both i was signed in. I don’t delete any cookie. Strange…
#62 | Bob | January 31st, 2006 at 19:23
With opera browser it works for me on every pc.
#63 | Sammy | February 14th, 2006 at 10:27
Could you add the feature of turning all email to "read" by clicking on the number ? Like for RSS feeds. That way, when I know I have read my emails, I don’t get that number indicating "unread emails". Thanks.
