The Future of Netvibes

As many of you may have already heard, we’ve taken on an incredible opportunity (thanks to Ouriel for getting the word out) to make netvibes the best platform on the web: we recently accepted an investment of US $15 million to do just that.

We would not be here without your incredible support. In less than a year, we have been able to prove that there is an ever-increasing demand for a digital life manager in our development of netvibes. The millions of netvibes users have been a vital resource from the very beginning.

The entire netvibes team is extremely excited to improve your daily netvibes experience while preserving the reliability and functionality that you’ve grown to know and love. In other words, netvibes will only get better.

The next step ahead for netvibes includes a wide array of improvements. We’ll be ramping up our user support and working around the clock to respond to your feedback. We’ll be adding greater personalization, including netvibes skins and more customizable settings. We’ll also be working to dramatically increase the speed of your netvibes experience — we’re in the process of rewriting the entire backend to optimize page loads.

At netvibes, we are actively working to make our service available to everyone in every language. In fact, we have already built a collaborative tool for the translation of any content on netvibes. The service, now in beta, enabled us to successfully translate the site into Spanish and Japanese. We’d like put a call out for those interested in translating netvibes into a new language — please get in touch with us via the feedback form.

Last, and certainly not least, we’re planning on launching local advisory boards that will help us localizing the content — by adding new blogs, news sources, and other local web services to accommodate your tastes. If you’d like to get involved in this, please contact us.

We’re looking forward to a very bright future here at netvibes, and we couldn’t have made it here without our incredible team and users. Thank you!

  3. #3 | Armen | August 17th, 2006 at 14:45

Netvibes is my home page for about a year now; good job :)
One nagging issue I have been having is within the feed reader: if a new entry has been added to a feed whilst I am still in the reader, I feel that the reader should update dynamically, as opposed to me backing out of the reader and then returning to the feed.
Keep up the great job guys!

  4. #4 | adel | August 17th, 2006 at 14:55

    good job guys

I’ve been using netvibes for such a long time, and now I can’t live without it. I hope that that investment doesn’t mean that users will have to pay to access netvibes on a near (nor distant) future.
Anyway, getting money after the bubble in the end of the 90’s is quite a feat. Congratz.

  7. #7 | Luke | August 17th, 2006 at 15:15

A lighter netvibes version would be great, so i can use it on my Symbian OS9.1 phone (Nokia E70), without running out of memory.

Daher hoffe ich das alles seinen Weg geht und Ihr bekommt jede Unterstützung von mir die Ihr braucht. Nochmals vielen Dank für Eure tolle Arbeit und ich wünsche Euch weiterhin viel Erfolg.

    To the crew at Netvibes,
I started using Netvibes because you supported Opera. Now, after using it for a while, I’m staying because of the excellent product that you have here, and the great support available to help sort out any little problems.
Thank you Netvibes, you guys are great!

  16. #16 | Roberto | August 17th, 2006 at 18:06

    Hello to the netvibes-team!
It’s a great pleasure to work every day with your comfotable plateform and i say thank you for your great work. My enterprise is launching a new website (adult education) and in the 2nd step after mai 2007 we will offer a personalized aera for our adult learners, teachers and alumni. We discussed if we want implementate parts of netvibes.com in our site. More later, probably next year …
    Kind regards, Peter

  26. #26 | Inbal | August 17th, 2006 at 23:09

Wow, congratulations! Wonderful news, you definitely deserve it.

Could you elaborate more on the translation tool? Does it require any technical skills? If not, I could try translating into Hebrew.

  27. #27 | david_nottingham | August 17th, 2006 at 23:14

Congratulations on the investment opportunity. Hope you have suitably sore heads after the celebrations.

Not sure whether this is the best place to request a feature upgrade. Like most people, I access several gmail accounts. One for me, and a joint one with my girlfriend. Although I’ve added the gmail widget to netvibes twice, one for each account, would it be possible to amend the widget so that each widget would log me out of whichever account I’m in at the time and log me into the other account?

  28. #28 | Steve | August 17th, 2006 at 23:50

I am an internet junkie and I have tried ALL and I mean ALL the homepages and such out there. BELIEVE me you will not find any thing better tham Netvibes. You ARE the BEST!

  29. #29 | Tim Reader | August 18th, 2006 at 11:38

hands down, this the best thing on the web right now. Well done guys.

Netvibes is the service I use most on a daily basis. It’s user friendly, no-nonsense and supports all major web services. It’s a great channel through which new services can be introduced (like box.net). Keep up the good work!

  31. #31 | Kurt | August 18th, 2006 at 13:38

Congrats. Keep up the fine work.
Using netvibes every day (and loooking forward for a german version)…

Congratulations! Always nice when a deserving venture receives capital.

I’m a Netvibes addict and look forward to the new features.

  33. #33 | Adrienhb | August 18th, 2006 at 20:58

    A.

    ps:
Et juste histoire de titiller… à quand le blog en français (ou d’autres langues) à l’image de ce que vous prévoyez pour votre site? ;-)

  34. #34 | Steve Knowles | August 18th, 2006 at 21:17

Glad to hear about the influx of funds because it means that Netvibes will continue to develop.

I can’t imagine doing without Netvibes at this point. I’ve had a Yahoo account/page for years, plus a Google page (and many others over time, including ProtoPage). But Netvibes really does the trick.

Very clean, efficient, effective interface …

Really good to hear this, good on you guys, look forward to some further discussion on localisation, defintely still keen to do it in this part of the world,

    cheers,

    tim.

  38. #38 | Don | August 20th, 2006 at 00:42

Great to hear, so what you are saying is that I may actually get a response when I am locked out of my account making it inaccessible?

A ticket was submitted and I have waited almost 3 months, and still can’t access any of the feeds I put on your site. Hopefully you improve your CS in the future, it really sucks to trust your data with a site, and due to a glitch on your end I have not been able to get back in, and have to re-create all my feeds from scratch.

  39. #39 | Tariq KRIM | August 20th, 2006 at 17:16

thanks for all of your support, feedback, and suggestions. we’ll be working to implement many of these new features in the near future.

also, i’d just like to reiterate that netvibes will remain free of charge.

hi don– sorry to hear that. can you send us another message via the feedback form with the details of your problem? we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Some time ago i send an e-mail to netvibes team, because some podcast that have the tag enclosure url type with audio/mp3 and with that type defined netvibes don’t show the listen and download buttons..

    Thanks for the help

  41. #41 | klonkr | August 21st, 2006 at 19:58

it would be great if not all of the feeds refresh at the same time and if i could customize, how often a feed refreshes.
maybe a restriction to only the actual tab.

what about a tool to create rss feeds for sites that dont have own feeds?

i love netvibes, its one of the best things that came with web2.0.

    thx for your work!

  42. #42 | Simon Nicholson | August 21st, 2006 at 21:27

I’m glad to see so many persons like Netvibes – since I discovered it a few months ago, it’s become my favourite start page, and I wouldn’t want to switch to any other service. The functionnalities are great, the look is nice, and it’s usually fast.
I hope the new funding will help you improve this already excellent service : )

  50. #50 | Adam Livesley | August 24th, 2006 at 14:38

    Well done in securing funding!

Just wondering though why do you need $15 million? Is only a online browser homepage, I cant see what you will spend the money on apart from after parties and new beasty machines!

  51. #51 | Régis | August 24th, 2006 at 16:00

    Excellent job, Tariq.

Hopefully some bugs will be fixed with the process of rewriting the backend… I can’t keep waiting for this new version to come :o )

Congratulations and well done on such an excellently presented website.

I stumbled across this site by accident and was hooked from day one. Microsoft is trying to do their alternative as part of their Live services…badly!

No way, could they match your site. So, well done with the funding to keep this going.

    Godspeed.

  67. #67 | mike | September 8th, 2006 at 07:06

please introduce a netvibes hosted email module. this way i dont have to leave my netvibes to read my mail.

Netvibes kind of passed me by until very recently. I’ve only just started using it as an entry point for my web. The Google Instant Intranet is i suppose a corporate focused version of netvibes, although i have to say not half as good.

Is there any way to set it up so you can be logged in to multiple Gmail accounts at once? I have one I use for business purposes and a personal one also–so I set up two tabs, but unfortunately I’ve never been able to figure out a way to manage both of these at the same time. Let me know!

  73. #73 | makemyday | September 21st, 2006 at 16:42

    Good job!!!!

Please put some of that money to work to make the export/backup of bookmarks possible.

  74. #74 | philippe | September 26th, 2006 at 10:08

Since Writely changed its login/pass to match Google, the module doesn’t seem to be able to login. Is anyone having the same problem?

  75. #75 | Opo | September 27th, 2006 at 23:15

    Hi to all,
is it a way to change background, modify coulours and shapes ?
    Thanks

unfortunately had some serious problems with netvibes lately…have firefox and googledesktop. For firefox the netvibes became inaccessible today – 403 forbidden get/no cash bla-bla-bla….

not to mention that is slows down the browser dramatically
