UrbanDive: The Ultimate Online Urban City Experience

Netvibes has partnered to bring the popular widget apps to PagesJaunes Groupe’s next-generation immersive map service, UrbanDive. Launching in early 2011, it offers people a way to virtually navigate their city in panoramic HD and enables users to engage with their geographic and social environment, interactively create and share favorite places, and access local services and real-time information about the city around them.

UrbanDive will allow users to interact with all their favorite Web apps directly at any point of interest: from social games to hotel reservation services, restaurant reviews, local weather and news, live chat applications, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and much more.

“Our vision for UrbanDive is to offer the ultimate immersive map experience, where people can explore their city inside and out like never before.” (Julien Billot, EVP, Internet Division, PagesJaunes Groupe)

UrbanDive will allow developers to easily build apps, using Netvibes UWA (Universal Widget API), a leading standard for open, universal widget development. And users will also be able to instantly find and share widgets from UrbanDive’s built-in directory, powered by Netvibes.

“UrbanDive represents the future of immersive maps.” (Freddy Mini, CEO, Netvibes)

Widgets become mobile with djinngo

You have probably already seen that Netvibes is partnering with Orange’s new product called Djinngo, enabling existing Netvibes widgets to be fully experienced on a mobile device. Djinngo helps you develop interesting new mobile widgets and share content with a mass market audience, instead of only small subsections of the market as many of the current application stores/widget solutions for mobile are limited to.

We think the djinngo platform is exciting to publishers because:

  • It gives you immediate access to more than 200 mobile device models
  • It offers the potential to reach millions of mobile customers across Europe and the Middle East and over any operator network
  • There is no submission approval process, meaning your widget can be immediately accessible to customers
  • Content can be distributed from web to mobile, capturing the audience at point of discovery, no matter where that is
  • Widgets can act as the upgrade path to premium revenue generating applications

Djinngo mobile coverage

You can get started today building widgets on dev.djinngo.com through a simple to use “Fast Widget” tool (no coding skills required). Or for more advanced ideas use the djinngo SDK, a fully featured development toolkit. Then you just have to download the djinngo mobile player to gather your own contents and others in your mobile phone. To find out more about getting started take a look at the video tutorial below or go straight to the SDK and sample code.

We look forward also to welcoming you to the djinngo communities where our users share their experience and advice, join us on Facebook, Twitter or on our own forum here at Netvibes.

New Twitter widget update includes OAuth support

We just released a new version of the Twitter widget to support OAuth. We did this because in the coming hours Twitter will no longer support the traditional method with login and password which was used until now.

The only thing that will change for you is that you’ll have to click on an “Connect” button in order to allow the widget to interact with your timeline. That’s all. Easy, isn’t it?

If you’re curious, you can read Twitter’s official announcement and if you want to have more information about OAuth I’d recommend you the following Wikipedia page. You can also check OAuth’s official website to have more information about the protocol.

Don’t hesitate to contact our support team in case you have any trouble with this migration.
