Netvibes Wiki is up
First of all, thanks for your incredible feedback !
we have received a lot of interesting suggestions, have increased our todo list, and got offers for localization.
We have opened a wiki to start organizing this feedback and improve netvibes
- create more localized versions
- use localized informations feeds for each languages and countries.
- add more applications that use RSS (like flickr,…)
- check integration, synergy with other web 2.0 applications
- opera, safari, mobile integration
- integrate collaborative features between registered users
We are very excited about building a collaborative web 2.0 desktop !
One very important thing, gmail datas are encrypted so we can’t read them. We’d love to have your feedback on this sensitive subject as well.

Netvibes

This is a very neat application. It is really interesting.. Instantly useful for me. So here goes my suggestions:
– An way to customize my entry page without the need to login.. For example generating a link for each user where he can access without being logged in.. No sensitive data would be displayed in this (like the gmail account). It is very useful for people like me who connects from different computers all the time.. So there could be a link for me like http://www.netvibes.com/?id=fjwA... <- (some generated hash) that I could have easier access to my feeds and webnotes..
Maybe this could be a setting for every "content" in my page: a checkbox or something similar to say "[ ] display this box in logged out mode".. this way my page would still be related to my user name (no need for ugly hashes), and I could have a better control of what will be visible only when logged in, and what will be visible through a simple link..
– please don’t use e-mails as usernames.. Let people choose one username.. It will be better in the future if you implement something like the suggestion above, with a link such as http://www.netvibes.com/user/my-...
– Feed auto-discovery. For example adding slashdot.org to the feeds, the app will search for the <link> tags in that page and discover its rss feed.
– Searches inside the box, and adding search feeds as content.. Like adding a box with a favorite search, which would be updated automatically.

can you guys merge with meebo.com? my life would be complete!
great work!
#5 | Matt Burris | September 18th, 2005 at 16:06
Wow, Meebo integration would be huge, but I’m thinking that may be difficult. Two ambitious projects tend to want to do things on their own, but who knows …
Also, any way to make the feeds update themselves without having to refresh the whole page? Like allow you to set in the options to update each module feeds every 30 minutes or an hour?

An optional fourth column would be really nice to me.
Keep the good work !

What, no AJAX powered wiki?
Anyway, Netvibes is an awesome service/website/whatever, and I intend on using it much more than the Google Personalized thing which I’m using right now.

Nice effort. I’ll do a more in depth review on my blog and link back later. I’d like to see if I can use this in place of the personalised Google pages. It looks like you’ve combined the best features of start.com and google.com/ig. Good work.
#9 | Andre | September 19th, 2005 at 05:28
Any chance of getting images in more of the RSS feeds? For gadget feeds like engadget and gizmodo, the images are a big part of the experience…
#10 | Amit | September 19th, 2005 at 08:40
Very impressive! It’s so fast & easy to use.
Is there any way to add links in the webnotes?
#11 | Brian Reynolds | September 19th, 2005 at 09:47
Wow. Very impressive.
Supreme concept of a personalized web portal.
I look forward to using this as my browsers’ start page.
Keep up the good work!

Great site! Would be a nice feature to categorize the feeds.
#13 | hoberion | September 19th, 2005 at 11:18
autorefresh?
#14 | Julien | September 19th, 2005 at 15:20
Something I’d like to have is Google History. Currently, I cannot :
* search and record my search in google history
* have a search history box as there is in ww.google.com/ig
Does anybody know if this is feasible ?

This is, hands down, the best homepage service that I have ever seen or used. Thank you for finally fixing everything that has been wrong with homepage services in the past.
#16 | dave | September 19th, 2005 at 19:26
this is very clean — it reminds me of google’s portal attempt, but i think this is cleaner and more enjoyable to use. i like the web notes idea. maybe a todo list would be a nice add as well.
also, i have a lot of news feeds that i read with Sage in Firefox. i couldn’t imagine importing all of them without some sort of organization. for example, now a feed gets its on little container. how about a container that has multiple feeds accessed through tabs (kind of like how some sites allow access to S&P 500, DJIA, and NASDAQ charts in one self-contained box. this way, you can categorize groups of rss feeds and avoid creating a really long page that’s difficult to navigate.
just a thought.

…next features?
label read/unread
meebo
autorefresh
public bookmarks
flickr
todo list :/
#18 | Wysiwyg | September 19th, 2005 at 21:07
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. It made my life incredible easier, since i open 20 tabs, each with the site i´m interested. The only feature i really want is some way to export the links i have. Don´t take me wrong, but i´m always afraid of relying in online services and see they go away without warning, taking all my bookmarks with it…
Great work, keep it up!

This just goes to show you that it isn’t necessary to steal the "best-of-the-best" from other companies (google) or have a multi-billion dollar base (microsoft) to make the best product, go netvibes!
#20 | Dexter | September 20th, 2005 at 03:02
Yeah! Please buy meebo and kiko!
God, that would rock.
Multiple pages would be excellent too… First page I for Web Searches (more options pls! A9 does this perfectly…), GMail, Weather etc., second page II for Bookmarks, more pages for RSS collections (III blogs / IV news etc.)
PS: You guys are the best.
#21 | KID | September 20th, 2005 at 03:09
Perfect, if you add one more feature.
I want to add some favorite links on my page, so BOOKMARKS feature is needed.. not difficult, isn’t it?
#22 | Fred Milgrom | September 20th, 2005 at 05:21
This is a great application. Much much better to use and personalised than all the other portals’ home pages (Yahoo, Google, and so on).
The one killer app that I would like to have added to what you already have is a calendar. Now that would realy rock – being able to set appointments and check them from multiple computers!
#23 | Tony | September 21st, 2005 at 06:46
Awesome little app. How does netvibes determine the numbers for the "NB Items" drop-down? Some of my feeds have a small number like 15 and others have 40. I’d like have the larger choice.
Anyone know?

??One very important thing, gmail datas are encrypted so we can’t read them. ??
I’ve checked it in the morning of Sep.23 in China and still found the account info(username&password) still can be SEEN easily from the to-and-fro packets. This is not acceptable for end users. Please make a double check.

How the heck do you REMOVE something (the pricewatch thing comes to mind)? Am I just dense or did I miss some piece of documentation?
#26 | FP | September 24th, 2005 at 15:44
I know this is trivial to most but is there a way or going to be a way that you can change color of text, windows, and background of the homepage?

#28 | sandro | October 3rd, 2005 at 16:30
Great work, i just switched from google.com/ig.
Feature Requests:
1) Customizable Search Engines for the searchbox. (I’d like to search with a localized google version and some local search engines who are not worldwide)
2) Search History
3) Bookmarkmanagement (step2 -> taggable bookmarking directory like del.icio.us, the same with your collected feeds)
Keep on with your great work.
