Also new, but not mentioned is the Box.net web storage module.

  2. #2 | transpot | March 9th, 2006 at 21:57

Nice, this module would be very useful after the Google calendar, CL2, comes out.

  3. #3 | Yoav | March 9th, 2006 at 22:00

We have no room for this! Please add multipage

  4. #4 | sylvainman | March 9th, 2006 at 22:19

Is there only iCal from mac ?
Or is there any free webcal services ?
    Thank you.

  5. #5 | Ron | March 9th, 2006 at 22:25

I am using this with 30boxes. If a add a new event to the calendar in 30 boxes, the webcal module is not getting updated. I checked the actual ical file and the new event is there.

  6. #6 | transpot | March 9th, 2006 at 22:32

@3 I guess 30boxes.com is your best bet for now. Planzo.com has some good interface, but it doesn’t seem to support iCal. So I think 30boxes.com is the best one (except for CL2)

  7. #7 | Tariq KRIM | March 9th, 2006 at 22:39

multipage is coming soon, be patient !

  8. #8 | artstorm | March 9th, 2006 at 22:47

This module is amazing. What I have been longing for, for a long time! I use the calendar service at icalx.com together with the calendar in Thunderbird. Works like a charm. Would like a refresh button though and it would be just perfect. Thanks again for this nice addition. :)

  9. #9 | Chris | March 9th, 2006 at 23:09

This is freakin sweet. I’m lovin it with my 30boxes calendar. Thanks for continuing to create quality enhancements to an already outstanding site!!!

  10. #10 | biz | March 9th, 2006 at 23:25

sorry if i sound newbish but how do i sync up my 30boxes events in the ical box for netvibes? i just can’t figure it out and it’s something i’ve been wanting to do for quite a while now. all help appreciated, thank you very much.

  11. #11 | Jeff Caylor | March 9th, 2006 at 23:27

    Hey folks,
The little icons are sweet. Great job on this page. I’m digging it and gave you some love over on my blog today.

    Jeff

  12. #12 | dave | March 9th, 2006 at 23:31

    This is great.
You can also host an ical on your own server because the applet will connect to calendars via ftp as well.

  13. #13 | transpot | March 9th, 2006 at 23:36

    @9,
1.Go to 30Boxes.com then Click the Settings link on the top-right corner.
    2.go to Syndication
3.copy the link location of ‘iCalendar Subscription’ in the bottom section.
4.Return to Netvibes.com and paste the link into the iCAL URL textbox on the calendar module settings.

  14. #14 | Calvin Orr | March 9th, 2006 at 23:37

For those struggling with 30boxes, log into your account, goto settings, choose syndication and then look for the link for iCal Subscriptions at the bottom. Just copy the link over to Netvibes

  15. #15 | transpot | March 9th, 2006 at 23:37

oops sorry not @9, but @biz

  16. #16 | biz | March 9th, 2006 at 23:44

transpot/calvin: thanks a lot! this is really great.

any of you think that google’s calendar will be actually better than 30boxes? it just seems to me that it will be hard to improve.

  17. #17 | Christophe | March 10th, 2006 at 00:23

Thanks a lot, it’s a very good idea, where did you find information about this ical format?

  18. #18 | Jordan | March 10th, 2006 at 00:41

A small tip for windows users like me who use outlook for their calandar. Here is how to use netvibes with it and your own personal webspace.

    1. Download this macro http://www.mikebaas.org/outlook2...
    2. Just set it up according to the sites instructions
    3. When you get to the ftp section just fill in your information so that it will by synced automatically when you run it.
    4. Enter the url of the resulting .ics file but instead of http:// use webcal://

  21. #21 | guido | March 10th, 2006 at 01:53

can this be used with calendarhub?

  22. #22 | Dexter | March 10th, 2006 at 02:54

    a) I love the new favicons. (though they seem to not show up for a couple of sites, downloadsquad.com for example)

    b) Great job on the Box.net web storage module – but why the fixed size? Can’t the content area’s height be dynamic like in all the other modules? This takes up way too much space right now…

    c) The web calendar interface is a great & important feature, but the mere list of upcoming events is pretty pointless as it as (you could already get this via PHP iCalendar and RSS). I’d really love to see some integration with an actual graphic daily/weekly/monthly calendar and support for multiple iCal feeds!

  23. #23 | Eric | March 10th, 2006 at 03:20

I think that mouseover feature could be put to good use elsewhere. For example, I subscribe to the quotationspage.com daily feed, but I have to click on the daily words to look up their meaning.

With a mouseover I wouldn’t have to click anything! PLLLEEEAASSSEEE :)

  24. #24 | dstarh | March 10th, 2006 at 04:26

there seems to be a bug when you put an ICS event that has an RRULE: set. Seems as if it pulls only the first event (ex: jan1-mar1 weekly wednesday), the href it points to is the start of the event, not the current event, and then seems to ignore all other events on the cal.

You guys are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!
I love those little icons, that was a nice little touch to the look.

Now the only two things I’m waiting for is multiple pages from you guys and CL2 from Google. That’ll be perfect!

  28. #28 | STeve | March 10th, 2006 at 10:03

I love and use Netvobes everday …. but I dont get your ICAL update.

When I try and update my 30 Boxes account with syndication data it says invalid feed ….. yet it works (and has worked) fine just using 30 boxes RSS feed in the OLD netvibes "add any feed" functionality

    I guess I am missing something …..

Anyway as I said I am a big fan

  29. #29 | Rémy | March 10th, 2006 at 11:55

Heu, on peut parler en français aussi ? ;-)

  30. #30 | Mark Wheeler | March 10th, 2006 at 12:29

I’m using the calendar module and finding it really useful. One addition I’d like to see though is highlighting of the events that are occuring today.

Oh and multiple feeds would obviously be good too but a lot more work I’m sure…

  31. #31 | leandr | March 10th, 2006 at 13:17

    Cool stuf, thanks!
And maybe you answer me, how can I change my password at Netvibies account? )

  32. #32 | dontcare | March 10th, 2006 at 14:26

The new little icons are cool :)

  33. #33 | Joshua Morgan | March 10th, 2006 at 14:41

Change Password: This functionality is coming soon, as it is currently in the JavaScript source, but the user interface doesn’t have a ‘link’ to it.

If you are impatient you can change it by doing the following:

    1) Whilst logged in, enter the following into the address bar:

    http://www.netvibes.com/updateUs...

If it was successful, ’success’ will be displayed on a blank page. Please note that this method isn’t currently supported by Netvibes, if you contact them about it they mightn’t reply. They also don’t ensure that it will work fully (as it hasn’t been released to the public yet).

  34. #34 | Joshua Morgan | March 10th, 2006 at 14:42

In that link in the comment above, replace [yourcurrentpassword] with your current password, and [yournewpassword] with your new password. Simply clicking the link in the comment above will return ‘error’.

  35. #35 | Scott | March 10th, 2006 at 14:43

27 you are adding the links to the rss feeds there are links in 30boxes for ics. Try that url it should start with webcal instead of http.

Has anyone else noticed that reoccurring items just show the date and not the info about the event?

  36. #36 | Francisco | March 10th, 2006 at 15:31

It work fine in preview.netvibes.com yerterday with 30boxes, but today not work. Only show one event without text. And in 30boxes and ics file i have three event with text. ¿¿What happen??

Francisco, can you explain your problem more? It only shows 1 of 3 events, and that 1 event doesn’t even include text?

  39. #39 | Francisco | March 10th, 2006 at 15:43

That is, it shows only one event(only date not text), and i have three in ics file.

"No future events found" with my 30boxes account… So sad it doesn’t work T_T

  41. #41 | Zegnou | March 10th, 2006 at 17:54

Même problème avec mon compte 30boxes : "No future events found". :-(
    Longue vie à NetVibes !

YESSSSS!!! Been waiting for this feature! Awesome!

  43. #43 | Michael Wales | March 10th, 2006 at 19:43

I reported the iCal support (http://www.betaflow.com/2006/03/... ) on March 6th. Surprisingly enough I don’t see mini API support in this update, and the Box.net support is an unexpected addition as well.

As far as the favicons go – I would love to see a way to turn these off. Way to many colors on screen for me. I have 36+ RSS feeds loaded up and I used to do a quick scan for red text to see new entries, now the favicons throw me off and it takes me longer to find new feeds as I look at each widget individually.

  44. #44 | Joshua Morgan | March 10th, 2006 at 20:45

Mini API support didn’t make it’s way into this release, that’s why you didn’t see it :)

  45. #45 | dave | March 10th, 2006 at 21:07

ack! My ical is stored in Universal Date/Time Format but I don’t live in GMT. There needs to be an option to choose your timezone.

  46. #46 | Joshua Morgan | March 10th, 2006 at 21:32

You will probrably find that you can change that with your iCal provider/application.

  47. #47 | Nikk0 | March 11th, 2006 at 00:43

  48. #48 | Rémy | March 11th, 2006 at 11:05

  49. #49 | Rémy | March 11th, 2006 at 11:10

  50. #50 | gtox | March 11th, 2006 at 13:39

I also get ‘no future events found’ for my spongecell calendar :s would be great if this actually worked…

  51. #51 | Joshua Morgan | March 11th, 2006 at 17:43

How far in the future is the set event? I added Christmas Day to 30boxes and it doesn’t appear in the ICS or RSS file because it’s too far into the future.

  52. #52 | ZullCore | March 12th, 2006 at 16:26

What is url of RSS calendar or iCal of summer movie in USA??
    Help-me please
    Tnx

  53. #53 | hobart65 | March 13th, 2006 at 00:42

Echo comment #3, tabs/pages now required

  54. #54 | Anura | March 13th, 2006 at 01:16

I love netvibes, and my preferred way of managing tasks is RememberTheMilk – I know its not a true calendar application but I like its simplicity and it works for me.

RM has a webcal feed, but for some reason it doesn’t work in netvibe – the error message is "This ical is not valid or currently not responding".

Any ideas on how to get this working?

  55. #55 | dinosaur | March 13th, 2006 at 08:45

    @9 wrote:

I’m not sure how to do this? Do you need to be using a mac or can you use windoz? I set up a 30gbox and am using firefox but somehow when I put an event and follow above instructions the system in netvibes doesn’t seem to work.

    Any further advise?

    Thanks

  56. #56 | Nicolas Valentino | March 13th, 2006 at 10:27

I had problems to use ical with Windows, but i tried with the RSS of 30boxes and it works better than the module of ical. Windows users you should try just to add the RSS feeds to netvibes, it looks great!!! Congrats to netvibes, my favorite site.

  57. #57 | Nicolas Valentino | March 13th, 2006 at 10:47

The only problem is that it only shows 2 events, can you solve this please? Thanks

  58. #58 | John L | March 13th, 2006 at 21:24

It looks like it only works properly with 30 boxes entries that have a time associated with it. If it’s an all day event the event name and description are not displayed in the module… only the date.

  59. #59 | Scott | March 13th, 2006 at 21:58

Is it all day events that are blank or repeating events that are blank.

Not all of the all day events are blank in my module but the birthdays are so that makes me think that it’s the events that repeated that are blank.

  60. #60 | MultiplePagesPlease | March 14th, 2006 at 10:29

Why multiple pages feature is delaying so much? I think that it’s not due to a lack of technichal knowledge :) .

Come on! Could you say, al least, how long are we going to have to wait for this feature?

    Congratulations for the (killer) app.

  61. #61 | karagos | March 14th, 2006 at 14:16

    Great Work!!
any news about "Multiple pages" feature???

Bug?

  64. #64 | jimmyk | March 15th, 2006 at 00:07

    Multipage, multipage.

    Are they working on it?

    http://www.barelyfitz.com/projec...

    Sorry for that.

  65. #65 | scottl | March 15th, 2006 at 01:50

I’ve been using AirSet Calendar (http://www.airset.com/). Has anyone got that working in Netvibes?

  66. #66 | User centered design? | March 15th, 2006 at 14:23

Each new feature you add is amazing. And so it is the Netvibes concept of how a live desktop must be.

But I just can’t understand why the multiple pages feature is not available TODAY. It should have been implemented a lot of time ago. All users are requesting it.

The most irritating thing is that the netvibes team ignore us. They can at least tell us how long we will have to wait.

No doubt this application was user-centered. Is it still user centered???

  67. #67 | Francisco | March 15th, 2006 at 14:49

#61 It is the problem with 30boxes.com, add a time for each event work perfect. Please correct this bug.

  68. #68 | oymoye | March 15th, 2006 at 16:56

    Hello,
And with Rainlendar server ? ok ?

  69. #69 | Joshua Morgan | March 15th, 2006 at 19:05

#69: The Netvibes team hasn’t ignored anyone at all. In fact, if you look at the main JavaScript source (netvibes.com/js/App.js) you will find that multiple pages/tabs are already implemented in the source code but obviously not ready for prime time. Also currently available in the source but not the site (yet) is the ability to customize your columns.

Just be patient and it will arrive :)

  70. #70 | schwab | March 15th, 2006 at 22:29

thanks for the how to for using 30 boxes syndication with netvibes!

i hope this problem is fixed though somehow:
"It looks like it only works properly with 30 boxes entries that have a time associated with it. If it’s an all day event the event name and description are not displayed in the module… only the date."

  73. #73 | Nozza | March 16th, 2006 at 14:05

I get problems with this using 30Boxes. Sometimes I only get one item showing along with several blank items.

RSS feed seems to work better and has the same functionality.

  74. #74 | DottoreNova | March 16th, 2006 at 14:44

    hi,

30boxes works if you fill in hours. You also have to give it some time if you filled in the hours (it’s not update in a few minutes). People say spongecell works fine but the trouble is that it hasn’t got tags like 30boxes.

  75. #75 | dinosaur | March 17th, 2006 at 06:51

This module must be very buggy or unstable as this case maybe as when something is updated in 30G ie delted and calendar refreshed in 30G the netvibes ical does not pick up the change.

You can put in three events but only 2 show up in list..

How about netvibes please look into this or provide some feedback to these problems.

  76. #76 | Joshua Morgan | March 17th, 2006 at 06:55

It does pick up the change, eventually, as it updates every 20 minutes.

Currently the Netvibes team is looking into the issues mentioned with this module.

  77. #77 | DottoreNova | March 17th, 2006 at 10:57

I have the impression that it works already better?
or is that just my imagination?

  78. #78 | dinosaur | March 17th, 2006 at 13:23

are yes see that with 30box is picking up my alteration test – I must learn to be patient….

  79. #79 | Andrei | March 17th, 2006 at 19:12

Any word when the Yahoo! Mail module will work?

Thanks! Email me if any questions.

  80. #80 | Joshua Morgan | March 17th, 2006 at 22:21

The Yahoo! Mail module only works for users that have POP mail on their account enabled, this is a limitation of Yahoo! Mail and not Netvibes.

Currently, there is nothing we can do about this.

  81. #81 | dinosaur | March 18th, 2006 at 00:38

why does 30box only pick up 2 events max?

  82. #82 | starcrouz | March 18th, 2006 at 01:10

Great module ! Just a little improvement idea : could it be possible to add the week day (Thu dec 15)? Also, adding the year each time is useless, it is confuse.

Any chance for ability to make MORE THAN 3 COLUMNS of RSS feeds? It would suit very well all those who have higher resolution on their screens e.g. 1280×1024 or above.

Mine is 2560×1600 and i am dying for this feature cos there is so much space running loose and i cannot fit all of my feeds on one screen.
Cos of that i have to scroll to get to the others.

Please look at these screenshots to get the idea:
    I . actual layout (3 cols):
    kreofina.pl/media/img/net…
    II. perfect layout (6 cols):
    kreofina.pl/media/img/net…

hope u can get this stuff into consideretion.
I am a great fan of yours and I bow in front of u for the ease of life u gave me.Any possibilities for a donation for the cause program? I’d definitely donate a nice $.

  85. #85 | Andrei B | March 19th, 2006 at 05:01

just wanted to say that you guys are doing an excellent job! also just wanted to mention that pageflakes is really catching up to you guys…watch your back…

  87. #87 | Enrik | March 21st, 2006 at 20:40

In the moment Pageflakes works as fast as netvibes I’ll do the change, because of the multiple pages feature.

And that moment is nearer each day.

No doubt the have copied several things for netvibes, like the dialog that shows feed’s content, but the fact is that they are achieving a great product.

So please, release that feature!!! Multiple pages!!! Don’t waste the advantage your vision has give you!!

Netvibes is still the best, don’t misunderstood me :)

  88. #88 | Tariq KRIM | March 22nd, 2006 at 00:28

Be sure that the multipage is coming VERY soon, and it will be very fun.

Please, Tariq, could you tell me if the bug of the WebCal module with the daily events of 30Boxes feeds wil be fixed soon ?
    Thanks by advance.
    Netvibes rules !

  90. #90 | Sinaptik | March 22nd, 2006 at 02:50

    Aggreed with Zegnou.
I would like so much a 30boxes.com bug’s free module (birthday support, all day event). :)

  91. #91 | Amit | March 22nd, 2006 at 08:56

PageFlakes is nice but doesn’t support other languages. Netvibes is currently the best online RSS reader that works with Hebrew (except for the issues that Dor mentioned). Keep up the great work !

iCal doesn’t work, however, with 30boxes. I use the RSS instead.

  92. #92 | Joshua MORGAN | March 22nd, 2006 at 14:13

#92/93: we are aware of these problems and they are currently being fixed.

  93. #93 | Sinaptik | March 23rd, 2006 at 00:37

    Great news Joshua ! :)

  94. #94 | Steve | March 30th, 2006 at 17:02

There are problems with it using HipCal’s (www.hipcal.com) iCal url. I had some reoccurring events and this module displayed the wrong dates and times. Also, it seems the URL is cached so I can’t reload the url to see any immediate changed I make to my calendar. Netvibes is awesome nonetheless! Thanks for a great site!

  95. #95 | Realbob | April 4th, 2006 at 18:53

    MErci

  96. #96 | Bergarath | April 6th, 2006 at 11:54

    Hello!

Thanks to this function, I can manage several webcal in one page without iCal. However from today it cannot properly display Japanese charactors. Until yesterday it was OK. Both Firefox and Safari show the same problem. What’s happened?

  102. #102 | Hide40667 | April 16th, 2006 at 22:22

Thanks for the quick action! Now the gabled charactor is solved and I can see Japanese schedule as well. But still one problem remains… The time zone is incorrect. Netvibe shows always two hours earlier than the actual time in Amsterdam. The ics file has no problem to define the time zone. Hopefully this issue is also solved soon.

Are there any modules that permit iCal subscriptions to a password-protected webdav directory? I’d like to integrate my ical into netvibes, but don’t wish to have it otherwise public.

  122. #122 | John Minnihan | March 18th, 2007 at 01:43

@mhsu (#116) – There is a very simple work-around for this. Briefly, you create a new , plain folder (non-webdav) on the server where you are currently publishing your iCal ics file.

Place a single link in that folder to the password-protected, live ics file that exists in the webdav folder. Now, each time you publish a change in your calendar, it will get reflected in the live file and the link.

You mention that you don’t want to make your clandar public; by placing it in a resolvable URL, a read-only version will indeed become public. Password-protecting this is pretty easy.

Create two files in that same plain folder – .htaccess and .htusers. In .htaccess, list the name & type of auth you are using, point to the user files, and finally limit access to valid users. A sample .htaccess file looks like this:

    AuthName "Work Area"
    AuthType Basic
    AuthUserFile /plain/folder/.htusers
    Require valid-user

Now for the cool part. Create the above referenced .htusers file (with htpasswd) so it includes your Netvibes username and password.

For example, if your Netvibes username is "user@somewhere.com" and your password is "secret", then create the file like this:

    htpasswd -bc .htusers user\@somewhere.com secret

Note that you must use the "\" to escape the @ sign. You will now have a simple .htaccess protected folder that will always be satisfied with user credentials so long as you are logged in to Netvibes. If anyone else stumbles across that URL, they will be challenged for a username & password. And unless you give them your Netvibes username & password, the calendar will remain private.

In Netvibes, edit your calendar widget to point to the linked ics file. Oh, and be sure that that new URL is http only, as Netvibes seems not to be able to handle (yet) an https link in this widget.
