Netvibes introduces the netvibes filter and the netvibes personal search
You probably noticed a search field at the top of your page. This field is the key to new powerful functionalities of netvibes: filter your own page and searching the web.

Filter your own page
If you have already read a story but couldn’t remember in which feed, the first functionality will help you. Typing a keyword in the top search field then hitting the “Filter” button will allow you to find anything matching your query in compatible modules:
- Feeds
- All Digital Life Assistants
- GMail
- box.net
- TODO lists
- webnotes
- digg.com

Search the web
If you hit the “Search” button instead (or press ENTER a second time), it will temporarily extend the search to all Digital Life Assistants making them all look for the same search term. With our 5 DLAs you’re now able to search the web with 20 search engines at the same time.
To get back to your previous settings, simply clear the top search field and everything goes back to normal.

If you did activate the keyboard shortcuts, the key "F" will put the focus to the field. And if you don’t like this new tool you can of course go to your settings panel and disable it.

YOU are the WEB
#4 | bryan | November 22nd, 2006 at 00:47
this is great! does anyone know of a firefox add-on that will allow you to bookmark the page you’re currently on into your netvibes bookmarks?
#5 | Samy | November 22nd, 2006 at 01:24
bryan> We will see what we can do to increase firefox integration. Very good idea by the way.
#6 | glob | November 22nd, 2006 at 01:43
now you can cross of "Search for feeds" in the "Features in the works" sidebar
#7 | Franck Mahon | November 22nd, 2006 at 01:55
glob> done. Thanks
#8 | børge | November 22nd, 2006 at 02:10
This is a great addition to this already wonderfull service, thank you!
But I have two requests:
-You already follow the Gmail standard of keyboard shortcuts for so much (j, k, p, n), so I really think this should follow the same standard, that is / for search, instead of F as it is now.
-When I’m in the search field I feel that I should be able to press Esc to cancel searching and start using the rest of the site again. But when I press Esc I’m still in the search bar and I can not use any of the keyboard shortcuts.

Speaking of increasing Firefox integration, what about a Firefox search bar plugin that goes to my "Search" tab in Netvibes and queries all 5 DLAs?
#10 | seb.fr | November 22nd, 2006 at 13:26
search field is bugged, if you search for something a cross appear to come back to previous state? But if you want to do another search with a long string, the end of the string is not displayed. It is hidden by the cross
.
very good features though.
thanks.

Is there a module/widget/whatever that functions as a label? I like the tabs, but I would also like to be able to sub-divide their content; while I can create logical groupings, I can’t identify them on the page.
Does something like this exist, and if so, where can I find it?

Hey do you guys send support requests to /dev/null?
I love netvibes – it’s the best reader I have found. But when I tried to set up an account for my brother the other day, it deleted my account and copied my stuff to his account.
I can’t figure out how to get my account back without starting from scratch.
Yours puzzled…
#13 | Salva | November 22nd, 2006 at 14:59
I also can’t understand browsing internet without using netvibes. Yes, you are the web.
#14 | Samy | November 22nd, 2006 at 15:01
Hi Thomas,
We suggests you to send an email to our support team, explaining your problem in details. Here is the feedback form : http://www.netvibes.com/static.p...
#15 | José | November 22nd, 2006 at 15:39
And what about the Wikipedia Search?
#16 | Thomas Holmes | November 22nd, 2006 at 16:00
Hi Samy! Thanks for your response. I sent in an email to your support team on saturday or sunday (I think) and haven’t heard back from them.
I have sent in an email before. And my brother was saying he sent in a couple of emails as well. And neither of us have ever got a response.
Hence I wondered if perhaps you don’t read support emails.
As I said, I think netvibes is brilliant. I was starting to get very used to it. But now it’s broken for me.
I guess I’ll wait from a support response a little while longer. I’m not to keen on starting again from scratch – not sure where my opml file is and I had subscribed to quite a few other blogs since.
PS The Netvibes/Firefox 2 integration is brilliant too!

It’s great to see the development going on. How about adding a Google Analytics Module.
#18 | Franck Mahon | November 22nd, 2006 at 17:09
børge & seb.fr> we’ll improve the search field in the next days to solve the little glitches you noticed
Dexter> someone already posted an opensearch engine on mozdev mycroft.mozdev.org/downlo… and we’ll see how we can provide you with the ultimate search experience
Jeff> a solution would be to define different colors for each category but are you looking more at something like sub-tabs? Please clarify..
José> Wikipedia is still available in the "classic web search".
There’s also a wikipedia widget in our ecosystem. And we
sentwill send an email to the developer’s mailing list to explain them how theycanwill be able to support soon the new netvibes personal search in their modules.Markus> That’s a great idea.. Maybe you already read it on some other blogs but we will support in a near future the google widgets directly inside your netvibes and we saw in their directory a couple of google analytics modules which might make you happy.
#19 | Samy | November 22nd, 2006 at 18:27
Thomas> Yeah we have read your emails, don’t worry
Actually, your problem is a tough one, but a technician will contact you in a few minutes to help you resolving it. Thanks again for using Netvibes.
#20 | børge | November 22nd, 2006 at 19:00
Franck: Great!
One more thing: Would it be possible to let me hide the search area from view, but still let me use it through the keyboard shortcut?
And you should add that opensearch thing to the site so that Firefox automatically discovers it, like on Wikipedia.
And this is off topic, but I’ll say it here because I have bad experience with contacting you trough mail, and it’s very important to me:
Either your 30Boxes module is very flawed, or the feed from 30Boxes is, because very few of my calendar items in 30Boxes shows in Netvibes! It seems to be totally random what shows and what doesn’t, and none of my birthday items have ever given me any description! Yet another problem I’ve experienced is that the items that do show up claims to be starting one hour later than what is the case. Lets say I add an appointment to 30Boxes that starts at 09.00 and ends at 11.00. At Netvibes it is showed as starting at 10.00 and ending at 11.00.
This is a big problem for me when I try to keep track of my life. I really hope you can look into this soon! Thanks!
#21 | Craig | November 23rd, 2006 at 01:02
So very happy with this feature. Works like a friggin charm, great for news search. Cheers!
#22 | Inbal | November 23rd, 2006 at 15:57
Since everybody’s throwing ideas, and it does kind of relate to the topic and to the previous comment, could you please add a simple button to mark feeds as Read Later? (I was thinking of the arrow on the left to turn the font into bold.) It’s simpler than a search if you already know you’re gonna be needing something later, and it would really really help me screen articles ahead of reading on the news tab.
#23 | Opo | November 23rd, 2006 at 17:52
Hi, good work !
You should specify that the FILTER SEARCH works for all TABS not just the one you are on.
The problem I have is that Ihave more than 10 TABS and so I have to go through all of the Tabs to find the results.
SOLUTION:
Filter results should show in a separate module with a listing of all results by Tab..
Keep on !
PS: we need a real User Forum !
#24 | Mike | November 24th, 2006 at 13:37
Nice additions. One other thing you’ve done though is to change the "expand" icons on the header bars from pointing right when closed / pointing down when open. This worked beautifully! Why have you now got up and down icons, which are completely counter-intuitive…
Minor point but anyone I’ve shown it to is confused!

#26 | børge | November 24th, 2006 at 18:17
I agree with Mike, that’s not a good way to do it!
#27 | transid | November 25th, 2006 at 10:57
I love netvibes, one thing that bugs me, though, is the amount of space lost by the useless (or is it usefull ?) title "myweb" on top of the page. As i work on a laptop most of the time I could use this space to add several additional feeds.
#28 | Tariq KRIM | November 25th, 2006 at 14:54
hi transid you can already get rid of the title in the setting panel and use extra space !
#29 | Opo | November 25th, 2006 at 21:16
Tariq,
we need a Users Forum !
#30 | pile0nades | November 26th, 2006 at 01:24
I second a request for a forum. One can be set up in one minute at forumer.com/ for free.
#31 | Opo | November 26th, 2006 at 13:18
netvibes Forum should have the following sections :
1) REQUESTS
2) HOW TO
3) DEVELOPERS
4) GOOGLE API
5) OTHER API
6) MASHUPS
…

The search feature is a killer feature!
Very useful and powerful.
BUT the last days i see a lot of loading delays of your page…
#36 | Samy | November 29th, 2006 at 12:33
Opo> "Netvibers" : yeah, we like
Thanks for the forum, it is very well done!
#37 | John | November 30th, 2006 at 06:48
Please please, take the AUTO DETECT "ADD NETVIBES to YOUR SEARCH ENGINES" script out or at least make it optional.
I don’t need my browser Search box glowing and begging me to add Netvibes to my list of Search Engines everytime I open my Home page.
#38 | Samy | November 30th, 2006 at 14:02
Hi John. Could you send an email to our support ("feedback" link at the bottom of the page) describing your problem and the browser you are using? We will investigate.
#39 | John | November 30th, 2006 at 17:01
Done Sammy, thanks.
#40 | Gobo | November 30th, 2006 at 19:50
Any chance to have a tv schedule listing on netvibes page? I’ve checked the modules and there very basic and don’t list every channel.
Something like tvlistings.com or Yahoo Tv listings.
#41 | opo | November 30th, 2006 at 22:52
>samy: thanks.
If you want to make a post on the forum, do not hesitate…
One day we could even dream of a direct link…

Is there any plans for a good sports scoreboard module? Currently, that’s the main reason that is stopping me from making the switch from My Yahoo! to Netvibes..
