Netvibes introduces Meebo and Alexa modules
Alexa module
Alexa is a website tracking service, based on statistics sent by an Internet Explorer browser toolbar installed on a sampling of Internet users.
You’ve been a lot to ask for this module and here it is : you will be able to display some colorful Alexa graph trends for up to five sites. To configure the module, just edit it, enter the url of one or more sites you want to see then click on Ok. You can also set a custom title, adjust the size and the range of the line graph.
You can easily switch between three types of traffic information:
- Daily traffic rank trend;
- Daily page views (per millions);
- Daily reach (per millions).
Learn more about traffic on Alexa.

For even more information about the pages, click on the chart to be taken to Alexa.com.
Meebo module
Netvibes and meebo have been working tightly to bring you instant messaging. You will now be able to chat with people on most popular networks: AIM, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.By adding the meebo module will automatically create a new tab so you have enough room for chatting with everybody.

All you have to do then is fill the form with your accounts information. If you have a Meebo account, you will be able to log in multiple networks automatically

You are now ready to chat !
You can safely switch between tabs, your meebo will blink when someone is talking to you on IM

#2 | Bob Rowlands | July 26th, 2006 at 21:05
So where is the Meebo module? I’d like to use it, but I can’t find it.
#3 | prusux | July 26th, 2006 at 21:40
IRC anyone ?
#4 | Ron | July 26th, 2006 at 21:53
How about fixing the iCal Viewer?

#6 | loki63 | July 26th, 2006 at 21:57
Just one thing, when U leave the Meeboo tab and then go back on it, little bug to fix : we’re going to the top of the chat window and no to the last mess…
#7 | gustaf | July 26th, 2006 at 22:39
Yes, IRC IRC IRC!! Please! That would be awesome! IRC with an online log! I’d even pay for that!
#8 | JOJOFACE | July 26th, 2006 at 22:52
Yes! I’ve been waiting for a meebo module. Perfect!
#9 | Patrick | July 26th, 2006 at 23:36
i still don’t see it available. all i see if a meebo news site feed. i still don’t see a module.
#10 | kewlio | July 27th, 2006 at 00:27
meebo is awesome! lil bug
whenever i change tab and go back to meebo page, it resets my chat windows to the top of conversationo, so i have to scroll down
fix please! netvibes rule
#11 | Jeff Staple | July 27th, 2006 at 00:55
Oh nice work guys. You just keep introducing me to these great AJAX apps. I’ve been half-heartedly using trillian for years, but the integration of this "meebo" is sweet. Excellent.
#12 | nikkie | July 27th, 2006 at 01:52
I can’t login to meebo – it just freezes. Then I tried to remove the meebo tab and module, and it moved the module to my first page and I can’t delete it. None of my other modules will load at all now.
#13 | Tariq KRIM | July 27th, 2006 at 02:06
hi nikkie, use the feedback form so our support team can check that with you !
#14 | JOJOFACE | July 27th, 2006 at 02:11
I’m having a lot of problems with the Meebo module. Nothing else will load if there is a Meebo module present…
#15 | Nathan Friedly | July 27th, 2006 at 02:29
Nobody who knows their stuff cares about alexia, but meebo rocks!
I do wish it was actualy loading meebo into my netvibes instead of an iframe. then there’d be a good bit less wasted space on the border and whatnot. I guess you could do that even with the iframe, just make it as big as the entire tab instead of having all the border and margin and padding around the meebo area.
Also, the edit section has boxes for all of the individual messengers, but not for my actual meebo account. I’m sure a good number of the people, myself included, who will use this module will have a meebo account.
Still, very cool – keep up the good work guys!
#16 | JOJOFACE | July 27th, 2006 at 02:50
I disagree Nathan, I like how it’s in an iFrame. It makes it seem like it’s still a part of Netvibes. It would look awkward with the tabs up top, don’t ya think?
#17 | nikkie | July 27th, 2006 at 03:11
Tariq KRIM:
Thanks for the reply! The feedback form doesn’t load though – nothing loads anymore.
#18 | Bob Rowlands | July 27th, 2006 at 03:24
I tried the Meebo module. All of the other modules on all of my other tabs hang loading, i.e., it makes the rest of Netvibes useless, so I had to get rid of Meebo. I think it’s a great idea having a Meebo tab, though, so I hope it gets fixed.
#19 | Chad | July 27th, 2006 at 03:37
I have the same problem mentioned above – adding a meebo module makes every other feed will not load, and clicking on a link opens the story in a new window instead of within the netvibes interface.
#20 | Patrick | July 27th, 2006 at 04:34
sorry everyone…am i missing something? i can’t find the meebo module at the ecosystem.
i did a search and i still can’t find it. a little help would be greatly appreciated.
#21 | Ajay | July 27th, 2006 at 05:30
Great job on the new modules
Now I don’t need to visit Meebo to login…
#22 | Nathan Friedly | July 27th, 2006 at 05:31
@JOJOFACE
I took issue with the iframe partialy because it had a double scroll bar on the signin page at 1024×768.
It just feels cramped in there.. I dont like having to scroll at all.
Also, my firefox just auto installed an update. now all my netvibes modules wouldnt load exept meebo and a single rss feed (This Week In Tech, if it matters). Killed meebo and it works perfectly.
I think firefox changed something with their fresh update that doesnt play well with the meebo module…
#23 | JOJOFACE | July 27th, 2006 at 06:02
@Nathan: Ah. Well, I’m running on a widescreen laptop which I didn’t take into consideration.
#24 | Paul Kerl | July 27th, 2006 at 07:35
To all those in search of the meebo module (I had a hard time finding, as it is not in the "ecosystem")–
It’s in the "+Add Content" on the non-ecosystem, non-blog netvibes page instead of the ecosystem–so check it out!
#25 | Eric | July 27th, 2006 at 07:50
Same problem, I added the meebo module and the feeds on my other tabs stopped updating – removing the meebo tab took care of the problem.
#26 | Eric | July 27th, 2006 at 07:54
And an other bug with the meebo module : it messes up the configuration of the way links work. Even if you don’t check "open links directly on the site" ( translated somewhat badly from french ) links open in a new window and not in the netvibes interface.
#27 | Gabe Rodriguez | July 27th, 2006 at 08:57
I’m excited to use Meebo. Especially from home, now I can stop using AIM. Blah.
#28 | noz | July 27th, 2006 at 09:46

#29 | merlin64 | July 27th, 2006 at 12:33
Thanks for implementing meebo, as others in this thread have said, adding IRC now would be great
#30 | David | July 27th, 2006 at 13:24
I don’t know if it is in relation with your last update but keyboard shortcuts doesn’t work anymore…
#31 | Chad | July 27th, 2006 at 15:27
Is Netvibes down? Everytime I go to my page it just loads and loads and nothing happens.
#32 | François | July 27th, 2006 at 15:31
Thanks a lot for your feedbacks, with them we discovered a problem under Firefox with the Meebo module.
For the moment if the module is installed, your feeds are not loaded. We are working to resolve this problem as soon as possible.
If you remove the module all your module are loaded correctly and under IE there is no problems.
Ron, what’s going on with the Ical module ?
#33 | assaf | July 27th, 2006 at 16:11
Fantastic feature for those of us on the road a lot. Thanks.
But why can’t the module remember my passwords, or at least my meebo user/pwd? It’s annoying to have to enter them every time…
#34 | François | July 27th, 2006 at 16:15
You can create a Meebo account, you will be able to store your IM accounts with their passwords.
#35 | Deol | July 27th, 2006 at 16:44
Love the new updates!
For those that use IRC… I haven’t tried this yet, but would assume you could use the webpage module and just point to an online Java IRC that allows you to connect to your server / chat room.
#36 | François | July 27th, 2006 at 17:10
We are sorry to announce that we are affected by a Firefox bug that currently prevents best integration of Meebo for our Netvibes users. We have pushed an intermediate fix that turns off tab blinking for affected users.
For more details about this bug on:
bugzilla.mozilla.org/show…
If someone already get a problem with this bug and found a solution please contact us.
If you find any others issues with this module please send us a feedback.
Thanks again for all your feedbacks.
#37 | Inbal | July 27th, 2006 at 18:17
François,
The iCal module has been showing old events on the Agenda view in the last few months, I think that’s what Ron was talking about.
#38 | François | July 27th, 2006 at 18:43
Inbal, can you provide us more information about your problem?
For the moment we are not able to reproduce it.
Which calendar and which browser are you using?
#39 | Jeff Staple | July 27th, 2006 at 19:42
I’ve encountered something similar to Inbal. I use google calendars and when events have happened they don’t disappear from the module for days (and probably weeks) afterwards. The only solution I’ve found is to go to google calendars and physically delete these events.
Hope that helps
#40 | JOJOFACE | July 27th, 2006 at 22:03
I’m not sure if this has to do with the Meebo module (which I have added and removed several times, and is now removed until a fix is present), but my Screen Panel won’t save my preferences. Every time I reload Netvibes the Keyboard Navigation is turned back on. >_<’
#41 | Deol | July 27th, 2006 at 22:07
The iCal module does the same for my Google Calendar as well. I instead use a new tab using the webpage module and link it to google calendar. It then allows me to view / edit. Works great.
However, to better explain the iCal feature from my end. I use Firefox 1.5, Google Calendar using the "Private" iCal feed. Once configured with the feed added, events duplicate and / or not remove from the list when the event has passed.
#42 | wakka | July 27th, 2006 at 22:16
I’d like to be able to change the height of the Meebo module. Either through a config setting (e.g. height in pixels) or by dragging the edges of the module. Perhaps a config setting could let you lock and unlock a draggable resize feature?
#43 | Inbal | July 27th, 2006 at 23:36
I’m using Firefox 1.5.0.4 and the problem appeared in three different Google Calendars (one personal, the others national).
I only recently deleted the modules, but if I remember correctly, they were showing my events starting from May onwards…
#44 | watt0 | July 28th, 2006 at 00:00
Really nice update, I just hope that netvibes won’t be blacklisted by my office firewall as meebo is…
#45 | motivr | July 28th, 2006 at 00:04
great additioons
but the Meebo module looks kind of unecessarily bulky.
#46 | mike | July 28th, 2006 at 06:05
meebo module doesn’t work at all on my computer. freezes everything. looks a bit like a frame solution anyway. the alexa module is good – but also looks like a plain copy from the pageflakes site. i use both, pageflakes and netvibes, and seeing that netvibes is now taking a module straight from pageflakes (they introduced that module 3 months ago) is a bit poor. i am used better from netvibes.
regards
mike
#47 | Tariq KRIM | July 28th, 2006 at 09:43
an unofficial alexa module is on the ecosystem from the begining. we decided to release a native module recently . Don’t forget that the competition reads also our wiki where most of the modules to do are listed since last october for most of them and we intend to build some of them natively.
#48 | François | July 28th, 2006 at 15:06
Jeff, Inbal, Deol thanks a lot for your answers. For the moment we are still not able to reproduce the problem.
Can you send us an ical url on which you have the problem ?
Please use the feedback form for send it.
If an another Netviber got this problem and wants to help us, he can send us his ical url too.
Thanks a lot for your help.
#49 | Jeff Staple | July 28th, 2006 at 20:32
Okay, I went back to my calendar and added some events on days that have already passed. On my iCal module, they’re are listed under the "Agenda" setting even though they’re in the past. Hoped I’ve explained that well. Here’s the address:
irishninja24@gmail.com/public/basic.ics” title=”http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/irishninja24@gmail.com/public/basic.ics”>http://www.google.com/calendar/i...

Wow, that came out weird. If that is confusing, try this

#53 | satarsa | July 30th, 2006 at 14:57
meebo module doesn’t remember my meebo account. I have type my login/pass every time. It’s more like a bookmark than a module. I use it from work, home and public computers, I have to delete the cookies after browsing.
#54 | Dylan | July 31st, 2006 at 04:55
I’ve encountered something similar to Inbal. I use google calendars and when events have happened they don’t disappear from the module for days (and probably weeks) afterwards. The only solution I’ve found is to go to google calendars and physically delete these events.
Good post!!
#55 | Jeff Staple | July 31st, 2006 at 19:26
I just checked my iCal module and the past events I created have disappeared. I assume you guys have found some fix, so I thought I’d congradulate you on a job well done (at least from my perspective
)

Meebo rocks. Its become one of the few programs I just can’t do without. Thanks guys.
#66 | Tulip | August 21st, 2006 at 09:12
Has the meebo bug been fixed yet? The one that opens a tab to the top of the conversation. If it has I’l start to use it. Do you have to download it like the other messengers?
#67 | Percy | August 21st, 2006 at 11:02
No Tulip. Bug is yet to be fixed. But considering the other benefits, I can make do with this small bug. Its really convenient otherwise.
#68 | Mandy | August 21st, 2006 at 11:08
Hey I think it has been fixed. I haven’t had any trouble.
#69 | pau sian piang | August 28th, 2006 at 17:09

#70 | RelakS | August 30th, 2006 at 12:02

The Meboo tab screwed up my whole account, and I can’t delete it.

#72 | Gandulf | October 2nd, 2006 at 16:40
Hi all, i have been proving meebo within netvibes today and it works really good. the only problem i found a bit troublesome is the scroll bar, whenever i change to other netvibes tab, the chat rises to the first message, so you have to scroll down all time you want to take up again the conversation…Has this bug been fixed yet?
#73 | anthony | October 11th, 2006 at 17:01
