Move your feeds from Bloglines and other feed readers to Netvibes

Some of you have been experimenting loading problems with other feed readers such as Bloglines.

Netvibes is one of the most popular start pages that allows you to read and discover new feeds, so why not give it a try? Importing your data from other services to Netvibes is easy thanks to standard OPML format. This format allows you to import and export feeds from one reader to another.

To help you porting your data from your previous feed reader, we have simple tutorials to guide you:

Export from Bloglines

  1. Sign in your Bloglines account.
  2. Click Edit in the left window
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and click “Export subscriptions”
  4. Save the file to your desktop
Export from other services

If you are a User of Google Reader, iGoogle, My Yahoo!, Live.com, Internet Explorer or Opera, we also have tutorials in our Help section:

Import into Netvibes

Once you’ve exported your OPML from your feedreader to your desktop, you can import it into Netvibes.

  1. Go to netvibes.com
  2. Click on “Add content” (top left)
  3. Select “Add a feed”
  4. Click on the “Import” link
  5. Browse your desktop files and find the file you saved (export.opml for Bloglines, google-reader-subscriptions.xml for Google Reader)
  6. Validate by clicking the “Import” button

Your page will then reload with all your imported feeds. To finish the process, make sure to save your page by signing up for a free account. If you have problems importing your feeds, don’t hesitate to contact us. Our support team is here to help you.

The loading problems I experiment are with Netvibes. Why does it consistently want to mark entire feeds as unread when I try and access it from different places?

I also experience quite some problems with feeds that are not refreshed (particularly with feedburner feeds). It sometimes takes more than 2 hours to refresh a feed box, and even clicking the refresh button doesn’t help anything.

I sure hope this gets fixed any day now. I am prepared to set up a temporary Coriander account using a different email address but I cannot find the export to OPML option in Ginger.

Export/import directions worked really well. Thank you. Now We’ll see about updates & refresh.

Unfortunately Tripa and Stevens observations are preventing your feed-services to be a real benefit, since the crucial factor to use feeds is to get and manage information as quick as possible. Just give it another review please and then I am sure this will be another corner stone, that explains netvibes to be the winner of Industry Standard Innovation 100! Great Job, guys!
