Introducing the bookmark module
A lot of people has been waiting for this one and here it is. The bookmark module is composed of a tag list and a bookmark list. What you see here is the list of bookmarks related to the tag “VIDEO”:

Obviously you can keep your tag list open :

The well known “edit” button of the module will let you add new bookmarks or import bookmarks (support for IE, Firefox, and any netscape like bookmark format). When importing, the tags will be created automatically from your bookmark folders.
There is actually two different use for the tag list area.
- The common use : when you click on a tag, it displays the associated bookmarks.
- The alternative use : when the form is up and you click on a tag, it adds the tag to the “tags” text input. So when you add a new link you can just associate it with existing tags by clicking on them

Have fun and let us know the bugs you find.
PS : not related but you may have noticed this, you can now click on the title of each feed module to go directly to the site as well as the GMail module.

Great module ! I experienced no trouble to import my FF bookmarks but did not manage to import my del.icio.us ones.
Thanks for Netvibes guys !
#2 | Matthieu | October 14th, 2005 at 13:27
Bonjour !
Bonne continuation !
#3 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 13:32
@matthieu
#4 | kevin | October 14th, 2005 at 13:39
awesome! thanks…
#5 | kevin | October 14th, 2005 at 13:56
only suggestion would be a delete of an entire tag. (ok, so export for backup would be cool too…)
very cool!! thanks again!
#6 | =DC= | October 14th, 2005 at 13:59
Very Sweet. Merci Beacoup Netvibes!
#7 | Zubrik | October 14th, 2005 at 14:01
Is it possible to import my del.icio.us bookmarks?
Thanks! Great job!
#8 | Andy | October 14th, 2005 at 14:14
Hi, this is very cool. But can you add some kind of mass delete? I imported all of my bookmarks from firefox -and that’s a LOT- because I wanted to try it and now there isn’t a simple way how to reduce my bookmarks to just a few links that I use every day (not without clicking my hand off anyway)
#9 | PiTiLeZarD | October 14th, 2005 at 14:18
Excellent merci
#10 | christianhauck | October 14th, 2005 at 14:20
for me, the P.S. (unrelated) click-on-title-to-go-to-the-page change is even more important and nicer
#11 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 14:24
@Andy
Je vais ajouter cette fonctionnalité
@Zubrick
theorically yes but it doesn’t work, i’m checking on this right now

TNX !!
#13 | Nico | October 14th, 2005 at 14:33
#14 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 14:42
@Nico
Je comprends pas bien, tu peux déjà utiliser les flux rss de del.icio.us pour afficher tes liens del.icio.us
#15 | mon | October 14th, 2005 at 14:43
>PS : not related but you may have noticed this, you
>can now click on the title of each feed module to go

BIG Thanks !!!!
#16 | Nico | October 14th, 2005 at 14:47
#17 | =DC= | October 14th, 2005 at 14:50
Ok, I have 2 wishes for the bookmark module.
> Ability to sort the bookmarks alpha by title and/or manually (posible up/down switches).
> Provide dividers (not a big deal can just use === as a link if the ability to sort is in place, or I’ll just add another module).
Other than that everything else is absolutely perfect!
Thanks again for everything.
#18 | =DC= | October 14th, 2005 at 15:04
One more thing,
> The ability to export bookmarks would also be cool.
#19 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 15:08
@Nico
Je vois. Cela donnera surement lieu à un autre module : "My del.ico.us".
#20 | Josh | October 14th, 2005 at 15:13
Awesome, I’ve been wanting both the click-on-title, and bookmarks
There isn’t much left that is wrong with netvibes
But I agree that deleting a whole tag would be nice (when I imported my Firefox bookmarks, I had a whole bunch of quicksearches, that I obviously don’t need on Netvibes.).. and exporting would also be mega handy.
Josh
#21 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 15:18
@==DC==
I may just sort the bookmarks by default, would that work for everyboy ?
#22 | houbs | October 14th, 2005 at 15:21
Vraiment génial ce module !!! Incroyable !!! Bravo
#23 | Eric | October 14th, 2005 at 15:31
#24 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 15:43
@Eric
@Zubrick and snowfallsoon
Importing the del.icio.us generated bookmark file should work now though it will not handle the tags (later)
#25 | Dexter | October 14th, 2005 at 15:44
Fantastic new feature. But when I add the module to my page, it just says "Loading…" and stays this way. After a page reload, the module’s gone. Using Firefox 1.0.6, is this a browser issue?
And yes, customized sorting (by date or name) and del.icio.us import would kick ass…
#26 | Eric | October 14th, 2005 at 15:50
@florent
> Ability to sort the bookmarks
#27 | Tony | October 14th, 2005 at 16:08
Great module, possible features:
-Rename or remove tags.
-Multiple levels of tags (example: Cycling tag is a subtag of Sports tag).
Thanks
#28 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 16:29
@Dexter
not sure what happened here, try to clear your cache and try again
#29 | Sajsemegaloma | October 14th, 2005 at 16:33
> Je vois. Cela donnera surement lieu à un autre module : "My del.ico.us".
My French is quite rusty, but I think I got this one. That would be an awesome solution.
Another thing that would be very nice is having control over how many links are displayed, in case you have hundreds under a single tag.
And as people have already mentioned, a mass delete function is a must for this current module.
#30 | Will | October 14th, 2005 at 17:19
Great. Silly question: how do I import firefox bookmarks (ie where is the file located)?
Thanks
#31 | snowfallsoon | October 14th, 2005 at 17:26
#32 | pablotossi | October 14th, 2005 at 17:27
GREAT WORK … again … you are the AJAX MAN!!!!
#33 | Netvibes : Florent | October 14th, 2005 at 17:41
@Will
you have to export that file from you bookmark menu in firefox, something like "organize your bookmark" then export
#34 | ikae | October 14th, 2005 at 17:47
Yes,it’s cool.Netvibes Team is a ExtraCool.
My idea like other about:
if there is Export bookmark it’s very cool.
PS. if export format is OPML ,it may good.
#35 | erissiva | October 14th, 2005 at 17:48
This is the one thing I’ve been waiting for that I know will set you way ahead of the rest of the pack.
Fantastic! Forget using other bookmarking services – this works just fine!
One minor annoyance – Would like the ability to delete tags directly. Didnt realize you left the tags section blank to make it default. Now I have the regular default tag and an empty ‘default’ tag that I made and cannot get rid of.
Keep up the fantastic work.
#36 | ikae | October 14th, 2005 at 17:52
Another my idea is "Tooltip" for everylink
because some item can have long Title,
when look in any module box ,it’s not clear.
#37 | Bob | October 14th, 2005 at 18:00
This one was said before…
-Multiple levels of tags.
but also…
-duplicate bookmark detection and option to delete duplicates.
#38 | Sajsemegaloma | October 14th, 2005 at 18:03
For exporting/backing up Firefox bookmarks or entire profiles, all you need to know is here:
http://www.mozilla.org/support/f...
#39 | Kai | October 14th, 2005 at 18:03
I’m for tooltips as well, it would be fantastic to add a description to a bookmark that pops up when you hover over the title.
A description that *could* be directly imported from del.icio.us, together with the tag… Hint, hint.
Besides that – it’s PERFECT.
#40 | Jason | October 14th, 2005 at 19:10
Happy Friday! Took me a few minutes to figure out what tags were, but now I’ve got it. I second the hovering to reveal URL option.
Now I can take my bookmarks with me (along with my feeds) wherever I go! Keep it up guys!
#41 | zagtag | October 14th, 2005 at 19:17
merci

@Florent
Merci de votre réponse
#43 | =DC= | October 14th, 2005 at 20:50
Automatic sorting of bookmarks is cool. I guess I am just so excited about all these new features, I got code happy and I’m not even doing any of the work.
Now that I think of it all that extra code would slow the app down anyway. Thanks a bunch Florent.
#44 | Josh | October 14th, 2005 at 21:29
One more thing,
Since you made the RSS feed titles clickable, why not the weather? Maybe clicking it would go to a page with a more detailed weather information (like directly on weather.com)

some questions:
1.My ie will crash when open the wwwnetvibes.com
but work smoothly in firefox!
2.The bookmark can’t work in IE
2.How to delete the imported bookmark? The delete function seems unavailable.
#48 | gg | October 15th, 2005 at 07:17

Merçi pour cette nouvelles fonctions très pratique
Fonctionne nickel, simple et utile.
#50 | Mike | October 15th, 2005 at 15:47
Great module! One more vote for deleting the entire tag and mass delete.
#51 | TONY | October 15th, 2005 at 17:05
one more questions:
the bookmark seems can’t support Chinese character(big5), when I imported the bookmark into NETVIBES!
(so, you know I want to delete the bookmark now!)
#52 | ronen | October 15th, 2005 at 19:16
hi.
congradulations.
my bookmarks are hirarchial. with "tags", i just see many many tags, and cant really navigate through my bookmarks with my logic.
is it possible to add an option for hirarchial structure?

del.icio.us integration would be wunderbar. Great job, though. =)
#55 | Rafael | October 16th, 2005 at 18:20
Excellent module!

bon travail
#58 | Katrinien | October 17th, 2005 at 17:52

#60 | Merkuri | October 17th, 2005 at 21:00
To those folks wanting to import del.icio.us bookmarks… are you aware that all of your del.icio.us tags and tag combinations have feeds assocaited with them? I already have a number of my del.icio.us bookmarks on my Netvibes page just using the standard feeds.
#61 | Lukas | October 17th, 2005 at 23:24
I’m really happy with this
#62 | Ben Coleman | October 17th, 2005 at 23:40
Thanks for the new feature, netvibes is looking good.
Deletion of entire tags or the whole bookmarks set would be good, I imported my bookmarks twice by mistake, now it’s a real mess!

#65 | Desmo | October 18th, 2005 at 13:41
It could be nice to have a fonction to load a bookmark file wich is on the web. In my case i use an extension of Firefox wich place on one of my website a bookmark file updated after each of my sessions, & load it when i restart. It’s very useful when you using firefox on several computer.
#66 | Joel Pan | October 18th, 2005 at 15:48
Requests:
* Delete tags (like the default tag, how do I delete that?)
* Mass-delete bookmarks
* All Bookmarks view
#67 | Joel Pan | October 18th, 2005 at 16:13
Another issue: it seems that the tagging is a bit buggy. For example I have the tags "anime" and "me". For some reason, clicking on the "me" tag shows me bookmarks from the "anime" tag as well as the "me" tag, presumably because "me" is inside "anime".
#68 | Ilan | October 18th, 2005 at 17:07
For some reason I can’t view my bookmarks from other pc’s only the tags. I have imported my bookmarks from FF, I can see them on the PC I have imported them on (my home pc), but I can view them on the work pc. Is this a known bug or some protection issues at the workplace?
#69 | chuckmo | October 18th, 2005 at 20:09
GREAT module, 2 requests:
1. A "View All" button so i have see them all. i remedied this bu just adding an "all" tag tho, so no worries =)
2. Not sure if this is possible, but it would be nice if there was a button that would open the current tag’s bookmarks in their own tabs

@Merkuri: del.icio.us bookmarks have rss feeds, but that’s a whole different kind of functionality… i have about 40 tags – so should i add 40 feed windows? nah…

#73 | kemuri | October 19th, 2005 at 15:22
"PS : not related but you may have noticed this, you can now click on the title of each feed module to go directly to the site as well as the GMail module." Best feature!!
Some ideas :
-> del.icio.us integration
-> Highlighting feeds with new content
-> Bookmarklet to add new feeds.
Very very nice work… This site makes me use the Home button again
#74 | kemuri | October 19th, 2005 at 15:25
Another ideas:
Integration with Remember the Milk (http://www.netvibes.com/) would be very nice
#75 | Sajsemegaloma | October 19th, 2005 at 15:31
-> Bookmarklet to add new feeds.
ooh, hadn’t even tought of that. That would be really handy.
One minor minor thing that would be nice… when the feed can’t load, it justs says "Error" in the feed title and nothing else, and if you have a whole bunch of feeds like me, you can’t tell right away what feed it is, you have to open the edit to see. It would be nice to write something like "Error: Feed title" or similar.
#76 | Lee Kraus | October 19th, 2005 at 17:31
I would love a Remember the Milk integration as well.
#77 | Nicmae | October 19th, 2005 at 18:16
javascript:q=”;r=”;if(window.getSelection)q=window.getSelection();if(document.getSelection)q=document.getSelection();if(document.selection)q=document.selection.createRange().text;if(document.referrer)r=document.referrer;if(typeof(_ref)!=’undefined’)r=_ref;void(open(‘blogmarks.net/my/new.php?…
#78 | Dexter | October 20th, 2005 at 16:03
Agree with kemuri, all good ideas… especially the bookmarklet. And hell yeah, Milk integration would be awesome. Or a native ToDo-module… say, with tabs for different kinds of lists or something…
#79 | MK | October 20th, 2005 at 17:26
great; thanks so much! here’s another vote for del.icio.us integration and a bookmarklet…
#80 | flipthedolphin | October 22nd, 2005 at 13:28
Great stuff here… but lacks the Mass edit/delete function!!!
del.icio.us and bookmarklet are smart stuff too!
#81 | Eric | October 24th, 2005 at 13:29
#82 | rupor | November 4th, 2005 at 12:34
i don’t know why, but when i add bookmarks from firefox my netvibes module catches not all of them. in every folder in bookmarks it misses 1-2-3 links..
#83 | Escay | November 7th, 2005 at 11:33
How about renaming Tags ?
The delete tag under ‘Add Bookmark’ is also confusing, it deletes the tag and the corresponding bookmarks.
Can we expect this in the Tags module that is planned?
#84 | Ruud | November 23rd, 2005 at 17:01
Good work! Are there also plans for a bookmarklet to add new bookmarks and tag them? (like "post to del.icio.us" and "protopage it"). That way it’s much less work to add new bookmarks to netvibes
#85 | Jason | November 27th, 2005 at 19:48
Can you make it so that the bookmarks and the rest of the page play nice if used as a web desktop in windows? The Javascript causes some problems, but other than that its a perfect web desktop solution.
#86 | Jean-Philippe Encausse | November 28th, 2005 at 18:01
A great things would be to have an option to export some Tags content as RSS Feed. The Idea is to use Firefox LiveBookmarks to always synchronize my Firefox Bookmarks with NetVibes.
#87 | chz | December 18th, 2005 at 12:49
great site, but I can’t get the bookmark import to work. I use Firefox 1.5 on Mac, and when I click the "import" button I just get "Error" and nothing happens.
#88 | Xioustic | January 2nd, 2006 at 12:07
del.icio.us integration would be fantastic, i discovered netvibes and del.icio.us today and was hoping they’d work well together.
this still beats google/ig though.
#89 | r000pert | January 6th, 2006 at 18:32
I’m joining the pack howling for a de-licio.us integration. the netvibes bookmark tool is neat and handy, but offers no bookmark sharing functionality, while de.liciou.us is a grat social network with an ugly and clumsily designed interface. just go ahead and put the best of both worlds together:-)
Another small issue: please highlight the tag whose links are being shown at the moment with a different color oder bold style.
keep it up, I love the stuff you guys do.
#90 | octy | March 8th, 2006 at 14:43
#91 | lex | March 27th, 2006 at 17:04
Is it possible to set up an option to make the bookmarks open in the current window itself, instead of a new window? I am using it as a start page, and it is really not necessary to open a new window for the links. This is one of the few lightweight ajax desktops and would like it to be my default homepage.
Also, ability to create bookmarks with categories. i.e ability to change the title.
#92 | JO | May 10th, 2006 at 17:56
Can´t import my bookmarks, from Firefox. I always get an error message, without any reference or explanation.
What am i doing wrong?
#93 | jimy | July 28th, 2006 at 14:11

Tnx u for this module (:
#94 | Carcarlo | July 29th, 2006 at 06:35
Where the hell I can get this module?
I’ve wasted an hour searching for it!
#95 | jcollin | August 24th, 2006 at 09:30
Hi, your concept is marvelous, just go on.
But i’ve got a problem with Bookmarks and firefox 1.5.0.6. It doesn’t work anymore, I can’t choose another tag than the current one. I don’t know if it is related, but in other tab, let say a rss feed, when I click on a link I go directly to the website and no more in the preview window. It looks like only a part of the javascript system works and not the rest.
But it works under IE.
Have you changed something or is this issues known ?
Please help,
thanks in advance,
Jérôme

Hi,
Is it possible to have separate bookmarks for each Tab? It seems like it isn’t…
#98 | florian.l | December 1st, 2006 at 17:31
Here’s my "Add to Bookmarks" bookmarklet, which lets you add a bookmark of the site you’re currently on to the bookmark module of netvibes.
javascript:tag=prompt("Tag:","");title=prompt("Titel:","");url=window.location.href;window.location.href="http://www.netvibes.com/modules/...
When promted enter tags seperated by comma (nice, neat, cool, …) and title of the bookmark. The URL will be picked by the JavaScript.
have fun.
