Ginger migration process
There has been some confusion lately about the migration process to get access to Ginger. Some of you did receive their invitation code very quickly but had to wait several hours to be actually migrated.
We are really sorry about this but since a lot of you asked to be migrated we had to set up a queue in order to not overload the databases and the servers. At the moment the queue is decreasing and you should receive your access to Ginger in less than 24 hours.
Thank you again for your huge support and continue to have fun with Ginger

Ginger is looking really nice so far! My account was migrated in only a couple of hours. Thanks guys!
#2 | Kyle | March 5th, 2008 at 23:29
Submitted migration yesterday morning….36 hours later, still not upgraded….Hopefully will be done soon. It was supposed to take 24 hours. I hope mine didn’t get lost.
#3 | Todd | March 6th, 2008 at 01:45
My migration happened in just a couple hours. Lookin’ cool.
Is there a way to move feeds from my existing page out to my public profile in bulk. In other words, do I need to go feed-by-feed and add each one to the public page?
#4 | ceeque | March 6th, 2008 at 03:04
must have been one of the luckier ones, got mine immediately! Its cool too….
#5 | Nikiboy | March 6th, 2008 at 03:15
I got an email after a few hours of registering, saying that I have been upgraded to Netvibes Ginger.
However, the link in the email still leads me back to the old Netvibes??? I don’t get it?
#6 | ABB | March 6th, 2008 at 08:03
I do not want any public universe, and wish to go back to coriander where my privacy was still… MY privacy!
How can I?
#7 | Alex | March 6th, 2008 at 08:34
I can has moar?
#8 | Netvibes | March 6th, 2008 at 09:56
@7 We understand that privacy is important for you. Profile information are needed for the public page part and that’s why we didn’t force the migration by letting you decide if you want to migrate or not after seeing the new features on the Ginger teaser site. On the other side we are working to adapt Ginger so the public pages (and profile information) will not be mandatory
#9 | David | March 6th, 2008 at 10:52
The transfer was minutes for me.
My universe looks, er, fine… but I’m not at all clear what function Netvibes is now seeking to fulfil in my life.
It was an easy way to keep in touch with blogs and I would have thought a natural step would have been to improve the script so that I could leave it running all day without it eventually bringing my machine to a halt.
Instead all I see is a rework of the tired FaceBook model…
#10 | David | March 6th, 2008 at 11:32
I’d like to downgrade too.
I didn’t fully understand the benefits of upgrading and now that I’ve had them for 24 hours I do understand and don’t want them.
I dislike the additional bar at the top taking space, dislike the star for sharing RSS feeds (which makes the HTML jump as the text sometimes wraps), dislike the public universe, and dislike the compulsory "Netvibes" friend.
How can I downgrade or should I delete the account and start again with Coriander? Is Coriander still available when you sign up? Can we even delete our account?
#11 | WhoAmI | March 6th, 2008 at 12:32
I fully agree with ABB and David.
I don’t want to have any public page.
And I don’t need a social network at the internet.
I want to stop lying about my name and my age at my profile!
I want my privacy back!
#12 | adil | March 6th, 2008 at 12:52
its good let me try……i hope it will not diss appoint me
#13 | L.Rawlins | March 6th, 2008 at 13:07
My account was upgraded to Ginger without me having done anything, a good two weeks before Ginger even launched.
Don’t ask me how or why, but I’m certainly grateful. The new release offers a lot of creative freedom for the service.
#14 | 12inch | March 6th, 2008 at 13:34
I’m not too fond of the social features either but I guess somehow they have to get a better picture of their users for the ads which will surely come someday.
In the end Netvibes is still the best way to read your feeds. Don’t like the social features? Simply don’t use them.
#15 | Leppy | March 6th, 2008 at 15:46
Hi, looking forward to checking out these new features though I don’t think the social networking part is for me either, too much of that to deal with already. I understand there is a delay in the migration, but whenever I follow the instructions here, it hangs on "waiting" and an email is never sent. I don’t know if its just a problem with my account or a recurring thing, but it seemed worth mentioning.
#16 | ABB | March 6th, 2008 at 16:05
12inch wrote ‘Don’t like the social features? Simply don’t use them.’ Well, I am FORCED to provide a name to a universe I don’t want to publish. Where is my freedom then? Do I have to switch all my bookmarks to another feed-reader and delete my netvibes account to get what I need? Really?
#17 | wadhah | March 6th, 2008 at 16:44
just like Leppy
hope you fix this guys
#18 | tim rooke | March 6th, 2008 at 16:52
Really like the new version, although does seem to be a hell of a lot slower? is this something to do with teething problem of the switch over, or just coincidently my internet being rubbish?
Thanks guys!
#19 | Kyle | March 6th, 2008 at 17:25
Just like a few other people, I’m stuck in the older release, and trying to initiate a new migration request fails. So yeah…..2 1/2 days and no completion e-mail. Something is definitely not bug free
#20 | Netvibes | March 6th, 2008 at 17:43
If you still haven’t be migrated please contact the support team and send them the email you’re using for your account.
http://www.netvibes.com/static.p...
As said earlier we prepare the features which will allow you to not use the public page.. but there still will be a black topbar
#21 | Bishop Hill | March 6th, 2008 at 19:14
Ginger seems very fast which is great. Firefox has crashed a couple of times since I got it, but that may be coincidence.
I find it irritating that I have to edit down the feed titles to get enough space to see the refresh icon when hovering over it.
#22 | dude | March 6th, 2008 at 19:49
well great. i dident get at first what the new stuff is im geting whit ginger so i went along. bottom line is now that most of the time it tells me my feeds are not valid. so i have to go to the sites again manualy. i dont care for the social network so please please preaty please offer a downgrade.
#23 | NetEx | March 6th, 2008 at 22:59
Hi to all and also to the "retrograds" = "I want to downgrade".
You have an option= you do not like it ? Leave it there !
Do not want to leave a name ? type qsdqfsdgsdgerge
Do not want to give your age ? type 01 01 81
DO not want to give your email ? give a gmail one
Lot of complaints for nothing
#24 | Problem | March 7th, 2008 at 02:34
Is anyone else having trouble navigating with Firefox? I can’t hit "enter" and have feeds open in a new window anymore!
#25 | deesje | March 7th, 2008 at 11:03
Hi guys,
signed up for the migration, but since then cannot backup my opml on the old url anymore. Just fyi
Grtz
#26 | relima | March 7th, 2008 at 16:01
Ok.. 1 WEEK!!! nad still no ginger or any email with confirmation… –
tsc tsc tsc… I give up; i am going with .com/ig
#27 | jeff | March 7th, 2008 at 18:30
how about in addition to sending it to your public page, you can send a story directly (and only to) one of your contacts?
Also, notification if someone writes on your wall?
I like it so far! keep it up.
#28 | Netvibes | March 7th, 2008 at 20:02
@28 Did you contact support? The activation emails must be stuck in spam folders or somewhere…
#29 | Taris | March 8th, 2008 at 09:23
Got my invitation 3 Days ago.
Still not migrated yet.

#31 | CupofDice | March 8th, 2008 at 15:53
Hey, migration was quick for me. The longest part was signing into gmail. I was not able to set a birth date the first time on the profile part, but cleaning my cookies fixed that. Am I right to guess that the only feeds which are made public are the ones you send to universe (from the dropdown button), and the tabs I don’t send are kept private? Anyways, thanks netvibes for providing a great service. I have used everything from Akregator (on linux-using vista right now) to greader (or whatever google calls it), and netvibes is the only solution for me.
#32 | Nocseiz | March 8th, 2008 at 18:28
i migrate to ginger a few days ago and now every feed in a tab is mixed with another tab. It’s totally CHAOS!
I want my old netvibes, without ginger but there is no option to disable ginger. Please help me!
#33 | nocseiz | March 8th, 2008 at 19:09
Thanks a lot netvibes crew. After i feedback them about this bug, my problems solved in minutes.
#34 | 12inch | March 8th, 2008 at 20:39

#35 | morpheous | March 10th, 2008 at 00:37
is there any prob with netvibes?
im getting :Service Unavailable!!
#36 | Aaron | March 10th, 2008 at 01:39
I have upgraded to Ginger and it’s great (not much has changed really). I still haven’t received an activation email to validate my universe. I click on the ‘Activate my universe’ link at the top and click ‘Send a confirmation email again’ but still nothing has come through. Have been trying for the past 4 days. Is anyone else having this problem and is the whole universe thing really worth worrying about?
#37 | roowlant | March 10th, 2008 at 08:40
Morning! I can’t seem to open my Netvibes page… ?? I an enter my Universe and obviously this blogpage but my manipage is completely white…? Is there soemthing wrong with the server or something?
#38 | luc | March 10th, 2008 at 08:42
Hi !
SOS : this morning, Netvibes is white… empty and without noise ?
#39 | Wyko | March 10th, 2008 at 08:46
Same for me … migrated friday. Log-in was ok at home on saturday and sunday. But this morning at office … I get blank page after log-in
. Will drop a mail to support.
#40 | MadJo | March 10th, 2008 at 08:47
It’s white here too. At first I thought it was probably the company here blocking the page, but then I could access this blog.
#41 | Ori | March 10th, 2008 at 08:57
I can’t enter into my page too. I can login, but after, a white page appears!
#42 | Xavier | March 10th, 2008 at 11:58
To roowlant, luc, Wyko, MadJo and Ori (and maybe others): are you still having a problem with accessing your Netvibes page/universe?
We had a bit of a tumble this morning but it’s been quickly fixed, so everything should be back to normal now.
If you still have a problem, do not hesitate to contact the support team using the Feedback form: http://www.netvibes.com/static.p... .
Cheers.
#43 | Albucian | March 10th, 2008 at 19:44
Me, I still had the same problem 2 min ago, then I cleaned my cookies and everything is back to normal…
#44 | Yuri | March 12th, 2008 at 14:08
Looks like all the feeds that I add to my page after migrating to ginger are somehow being messed up with 3rd party feeds or smth : (
The titles stay the same but links (and therefore contents) are replaced by feeds from some French websites.
I don’t speak French, and never visited these websites before (haven’t heard of them!), so I have no idea how come that they are on my page.
Furthermore, when I edit these broken links and put proper links there, a bit later they are being replaced with the French links again! Weird.
I HAVE changed the password. So the problem is not there.
After changing the password, next second I fix a broken feed link, it works ok. I close the browser, open it straightaway, the link is broken (French website) again.
Had no problems or anything with NV before, so I’m really upset about it (you know, not good losing these links that I add there).
Is it possible to downgrade or smth?..
Sorry for posting it in the blog, had no asnwer when posting a detailed description with examples on the Feedback page.
#45 | Jason | March 13th, 2008 at 16:34
Ginger has slowed my computer down so much I may have to stop using it after a year and a half of nothing but happiness and recommendations to everybody I show Netvibes to. Please offer a downgrade to Coriander. There is nothing in Ginger that I need.
#46 | Sierra | March 13th, 2008 at 20:10
Got my invitation 3 Days ago.
Still not migrated yet. – Maybe You need to wait another 3 days
#47 | MadJo | March 14th, 2008 at 08:12
To Xavier, the problem indeed went away after a while on that same day, but now I have a new problem here.
Not sure if I’m the only one, but whenever I try to access http://www.netvibes.com (or any of the subpages, including for instance the feedback form), Firefox shows me a "The page cannot be displayed" error. I can access the blog just fine, so it seems that subdomains of netvibes are unaffected. But the main domain seems to be down.
#48 | MadJo | March 14th, 2008 at 08:18
Hmmm, odd, I did try refreshing it a lot…
Never mind, it’s back again.
#49 | luis ferreira | March 14th, 2008 at 10:50
You are doing a great job!
#50 | Yuri | March 16th, 2008 at 03:21
I really like these fresh new designs and things, obviously lot of effort was put into this ginger, I just hope stability will come soon too
A few days ago I’ve described a problem that I have with ginger: all new feeds get broken and are somehow replaced with some [unknown to me] French feeds…
I’ve just decided to run a little experiment with NV’s own feed
Created a new tab, called it "NV LAB".
Added a new feed there – this blog’s one!
feeds.feedburner.com/Netv…
It appeared on the page with no problems. Ok. I close the window, open it again… Mm, this time it’s not replaced with a French feed!
Instead, it says on the feed’s block:
Doesn’t work though either
—
Netvibes.com Blog
Looks like this feed is not valid or currently not responding.
—
Oops
I open it – there’s no link to the feed at all!
Ok, I put feeds.feedburner.com/Netv… there again.
It looks ok before the page is closed. After that, it’s gone again.
..of course, maybe i’m doing smth terribly wrong and screw it all up?.. but well, i’ve been using NV for quite a while and was totally happy with it…
So I hope you guys will be able to fix these glitches soon, because atm it’s not possible to use NV at all (for me, don’t know how many people have this problem also but just quit NV or smth).
Good luck! Hope it will be ok, hope it will rock
#51 | Mariusz | March 17th, 2008 at 15:12
I migrated a while ago and today I was confused to see empty page with just tabs I had – no content at all. Is this a bug?
#52 | Scott | March 17th, 2008 at 15:20
I’m experiencing the same issue as Mariusz. All my tabs are there but the content is gone.
#53 | Andrea_ | March 17th, 2008 at 15:28
Same thing here, all my tabs are there, but the content is missing.
#54 | waiting to cancel account | March 17th, 2008 at 23:53

Ooops, NetVibes’s network is sick
Sorry, we are unable to connect you to Netvibes.

Rest assured, we’re working diligently to have your favorite start page back online very soon.
Thanks again for your patience.

#62 | JK | March 29th, 2008 at 12:25
How do you go back to Coriander? Please.
#63 | calway | March 29th, 2008 at 19:20
Heh Anais, hello . . . can you tell us please how to go back to coriander? Ginger is crap
#64 | Jon | March 31st, 2008 at 14:05
I see Ginger as a real backwards step in the core functionality.
– I get lots of false positives – feeds shown as having updated when they haven’t. Quite often most of articles in the feed will be shown as new when they’re not.
– New articles appear at random locations in a feed rather than listed at the top.
I use netvibes to track a lot of sites with a lot less work than doing it manually. Ginger is a lot more work than the previous version. If this doesn’t get fixed in a few weeks and there’s no way back then I’m leaving.
#65 | Jim | March 31st, 2008 at 14:31
I would very much echo Jon’s comments. I use netvibes extensively throughout the day, however, I too have been experiencing similar issues that have caused me to start looking at alternatives.
Frankly, I don’t think anything comes close to functionality from what I have seen thus far. Nonetheless, unless either the Ginger problems are resolved or the Netvibes team allows a downgrade to Coriander shortly, I too will be leaving. I would be surpised if Jon and I are the only ones that feel this way.
#66 | calway | March 31st, 2008 at 15:35
I agree with jon and jim. I have all the same problems and a few more. These problems with Ginger are beginning to be discussed on various sites around the internet, not good advertising for sure. Time for some action Netvibes or at least an explanation why you won’t let us go back to something that works.
#67 | rick | March 31st, 2008 at 23:54
just open a new acccout, the default is coriander..and don’t accept the invite to ginger
#68 | James Harrow | April 1st, 2008 at 13:25

Heh Anais, hello . . . can you tell us please how to go back to coriander? Ginger is crap Autoversicherung
#70 | carbo | April 2nd, 2008 at 16:18
I encounter the exact same problems described by Jon and came to the same conclusion than Jim by looking what other sites can offer.
Please fix these issues on feed refresh because you’re still ahead of the competition but it’s getting closer and these problems are showstopper for me.
#71 | calway | April 2nd, 2008 at 18:44
Anybody know of a way to dump Ginger and go back to Coriander without having to open a new account?
Thanks, in advance, for any answers. . .

So I hope this solution comes quick!
Kind regards from a huge fan.
#80 | Chris | April 11th, 2008 at 15:53
I am hit by the "all feeds are stuck" problem too.
So far netvibes support sent me a confirmation and acknowledged the problem. However, no time frame for the arrival of a fix has been disclosed to me.
I sure hope this gets fixed any day now. I am prepared to set up a temporary Coriander account using a different email address but I cannot find the export to OPML option in Ginger.
#81 | Jovan | April 11th, 2008 at 16:07
Since i migrated to ginger, that is not the first time my feeds are stucked…
That surely is annoying…

#84 | Gobo | April 12th, 2008 at 20:59
Definitely some slowdown on Internet Explorer 7, but not firefox. Other users seem to have the same problem. Using Maxthon here. I wonder if Internet explorer 8 beta would be any difference?
Some feeds get stuck or stop for a day or two and then return back to normal, some feeds just stay stuck and you have to retype the feed again.
#85 | Chris | April 13th, 2008 at 21:54
HOW DO YOU REMOVE OR DOWNGRADE FROM GINGER? Puhlease answer – lots of requests to downgrade yet I don’t see any answer. So it would be really helpful if someone at Netvibes would answer. I even sent a request to tech support and no reply. Also, it would have been really, really helpful if Netvibes would have spelled out the requirements BEFORE getting people stuck in the upgrade process. Or provide an automated mechanism to reverse back to the older version.
#86 | Lolita | April 14th, 2008 at 18:27
Hello Chris,
Firstly, please accept our apologies regarding myself and others of the Support Team not replying to you. This is quite surprising but perhaps there was an oversight during the inundation of queries post-Ginger release.
To answer your question however, the option to revert to Coriander is unavailable and ask that you write to me at http://www.netvibes.com/static.p... and discuss further options.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello all,
)
Same issue, a big part of my feeds are stuck (6 days ago for Reddit for example, kind of long for a Digg-like
It seems OK with IE, but I usually use Firefox. I tested it with several versions of Firefox (2.0.0.13, 3b4, 3b5) and feeds are stuck in all versions, so it’s clearly not a new firefox issue.
Hope you’ll be able to solve this issue, I don’t want to change of tool after having used it passionately for the last year !
Regards,
Johan

So… should I migrate? Will I eventually have to? Should I wait a few weeks?
#90 | Tian He Loong | April 27th, 2008 at 09:55
nogoodnikenstein, I got upgraded involuntarily, overall it hasn’t been too traumatic although a few feeds got broken. IMHO, If I were you and things are working out OK (working as they should) on Coriander, then I probably would stay on Coriander, at least until some of the teething issues remaining with Ginger have been resolved… However, it looks like they may be gradually upgrading people regardless.

i migrate to ginger a few days ago and now every feed in a tab is mixed with another tab. It’s totally CHAOS!
I want my old netvibes, without ginger but there is no option to disable ginger. Please help me!

I would like to be able to delete my account or remove the public space without having to wait for a response from "send feedback". I never thought I would have to wait to cancel any type of account with a free service.
#101 | Autoversicherung | May 5th, 2008 at 12:49
Really like the new version, although does seem to be a hell of a lot slower? is this something to do with teething problem of the switch over, or just coincidently my internet being rubbish?
Thanks guys!

Could you please make thew background image ’stretch’ over the whole page. Now you get this white strip at the bottom of the website. It kinda screws up the overall look, especially with the dark theme selected.
Hope you guys understand what I’m talking about.

Just like a few other people, I’m stuck in the older release, and trying to initiate a new migration request fails. So yeah…..2 1/2 days and no completion e-mail. Something is definitely not bug free

Anybody know of a way to dump Ginger and go back to Coriander without having to open a new account?
Thanks, in advance, for any answers. . .

Ginger seems very fast which is great. Firefox has crashed a couple of times since I got it, but that may be coincidence.
I find it irritating that I have to edit down the feed titles to get enough space to see the refresh icon when hovering over it.

Ginger has slowed my computer down so much I may have to stop using it after a year and a half of nothing but happiness and recommendations to everybody I show Netvibes to. Please offer a downgrade to Coriander. There is nothing in Ginger that I need.

Really

I agree with jon and jim. I have all the same problems and a few more. These problems with Ginger are beginning to be discussed on various sites around the internet, not good advertising for sure. Time for some action Netvibes or at least an explanation why you won’t let us go back to something that works.
