100 New Themes

Not to be outdone by this season’s fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris, Netvibes introduces it’s new Fall collection of themes: 100 to be exact, in a variety of colors and categories, from scenery to seasons, cartoons, holidays and more. Get stylish with a new theme simply by clicking Settings on the upper-right corner of your Netvibes page.

Our new themes are built on a new open structure that enables you to fully customize your Netvibes page, including the Big Green Button (“Add Content” Button). Changing your theme is easy, check out the screencast below.

Even cooler, you can also import your favorite themes from other sources. In your browser address bar, just type followed by the XML theme address.

This is just our first walk down the runway, but soon we’ll unveil a set of open theme creation tools so you can create and showcase your own designs, too. Stay tuned and let us know what you think.

How do I change the color of the ugly green button? I’m using exposition blueberry and I absolutely hate the ugly green button. But I see no way to change it. I don’t even see any way to change it on a custom theme. I’m wondering if Netvibes actually knows what "fully customizable" is supposed to mean.

My only suggestion would be to move themes from the Settings dialog box into the Ecosystem, thereby allowing developers to create and share their themes, and allowing users to access widgets and themes via the ‘big green button’ (although it will be weird to select a theme by clicking ‘add content’). Also, getting users to type along with the XML name of the theme isn’t very intuitive.

Just some thoughts. Keep up the good work!

BRL, firmalar: by "fully customizable", we mean that you can change all the components of your page: the header, the tabs, the widgets, the footer, and the "Add content" button. Right now we’re supporting the same properties than other start pages (for compatibility reasons) but we’re looking forward to add more customization options.

It appears that the XML theme file follows the guidelines/specifications posted here:…

For end users this means iGoogle themes can be used!

For developers wanting to get a jump-ahead at creating themes for Netvibes, use information available here:…

As Netvibes is using the iGoogle spec, it means that end users can use pre-existing iGoogle themes on Netvibes using the method described in the blog post.

Maurice — If that’s what you mean by "fully customizable" then Netvibes is not fully customizable because, as it stands right now, the big, ugly, green button cannot be changed.

When will Netvibes be fully customizable? When will I be able to rid my page of the ugly, annoying button?

You can use this guide (… to create your own theme and then apply it using the method described above.

This also means that any iGoogle theme can be used via that method.

I’m looking forward to creating one of my own, as these new themes are pretty cool (well some of them), however I think they all have the text/feeds on a white background. I just want it black (like the Darkvibes theme, which I’m using now), it’s easier on the eyes in the morning and saves energy 🙂

    Good move!
But I would like to have a free floating page to place widgets of different sizes where I want.
With a 22" screen I have a lot of space and fixed 1-4 columns are not the best for my own stylish netvibes page.

Actually, if you’re on a LCD, you’re completely wrong. As the normal state of a pixel in an LCD is letting pass the light, the less consuming color for any LCD screen is white. Well try anyway.

Mm, guess you’re right didn’t think of that, well it’s still easier on the eyes and looks better 🙂

Yep, it’s better for the eyes, but not for the planet. Anyway, i dont think the difference is really interesting.
